Is my gear good enough for Curator?Follow

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Gnomeregan&n=Kpaxus

I was thinking about trying to change my gems so i can get the +26 healing/-2% threat one, but i think right now it's fine. We tried the Curator last week and I ran out of mana a little bit after the first Evocation(I was on group heals). What items should I try to get? Should I try to get more stamina(Attumen one shotted me last week)? Intellect? And do you have any tips for the Curator fight?

Thanks!

For the priest, Curator is very much about mana management.

When fighting curator, my most used spell on non-tanks is renew. Along with prayer of mending, I use renew on the tank and other heals where needed.

For mana regen, I use the [wowitem=22853]Flask of Mighty Restoration[/wowitem] and [wowitem=27666]Golden Fish Sticks[/wowitem] in kara.

Drink a mana potion early in the Curator fight to replenish your mana. Use your shadow fiend on Curator when he enters his second evocation. The extra damage your fiend will do during that evocation should get you close to full mana. After that, it's pots when you can, conserve as you can.

I have been putting up swpain on curator (at least during each evocation) to help get him down a little sooner, but that uses some mana.

At 1566 +healing unbuffed, you have a respectable amount.

Any improvement in mana regen is going to help. You aren't an alchemist on this character, so the [wowitem=13503]Alchemist's Stone[/wowitem] isn't available to you for improving the mana given by your potions. When I was faced with wanting my primal mooncloth set, potions and trinket all on my priest, I moved my herbalism over to an alt.

Your build looks to be a respectible healbot build. Personally, I like to max out Silent Resolve to reduce threat. I would take the points from improved pw:shield and absolution.

Good luck to you. I'd say yes, if you can manage your mana, you are good enough for Curator. You will be even better with more mp5.

As said before +1500 heal is more then enough and Curator is mostly a mana-soaking marathon fight.

So come with enough mana-pots ^^

if the raid spreads out, forming a U-shape, then the sparks won't do damage to so many people.

have raid leader put you in the same group as your shadow priest, if your raid has one. shaman mana totems are also helpful, but again you have to be in the same group.

use superior mana oil

drink a pot as soon as your 3k mana down. don't wait until you /oom to drink one. that way, you can drink another sooner.

are you also healing whoever is soaking up the hateful bolts from curator? make sure the soaker is standing close to the tank. use prayer of mending on that person. it will jump between him & the tank and use all the charges.

Armory appears to be down right now but in general...

If you have a good spriest mana shouldn't be that big of an issue during curator. When he evocates the spriest should be able to bring you back to full mana, or pretty close. If you are still having problems you'll have to chain pot but also remember to only use your shadowfiend during evocation (he'll return 2x mana as he does 2x damage).

All things said so far are valid, so I won't repeat them. I'll just give my experience and conjecture on your possible group makeup.

Past (when we weren't geared much -- slower dps, less tanking gear, lower +healing):
We used to have a soaker for the arcane bolts and when we did that we had one pally on the tank, a half-healer/half-dps druid to keep the soaker topped off at all times, and a full healer for the rest of the raid to keep them up when fighting the spawns. Ideal was when I was shadow and could focus on the curator as soaker and give back a lot of mana to the casters.

Now (with kara on farm and all areas geared up):
We only use two healers now and no soaker. The pally and I have about +1800-1850 healing when raid buffed. The pally heals the tank and I heal the rest of the raid. The arcane bolts are thrown to various raid members and that person needs a greater heal. Most others get a prayer or healing or renews. You will find one or two members consistently take the bigger hits ... in my case it is a lock that usually gets the Arcane bolts and a rogue that ends up tanking the spawns. Those two need GHeals. I pot early still and usually go through 2 pots for the fight. I put the shadowfiend on during the evocation.

It is a trade off. With 3 healers, less healing needed from each. But the fight is a lot longer. With more dps, less healing needed in general. I really like the more dps method now because the spawns go down quickly and they aren't on me or taking up distributed heals. If fewer people are getting hit, it is easier and more mana efficient to only have to throw the GHeals on a few people.

Don't bother with the 26heal/-2%threat one. In fact, don't even bother with a helm with a meta socket unless it's your PvP-only helm (get either Powerful Earthstorm or Mystical Skyfire for PvP) or you have T5. Whitemend and Third Eye are better than anything until Tier 5. Royal Nightseyes are the best gem for pretty much every socket, and the requirement of the 26heal/-2% threat gem requires you to cut out all/most of them.

Gotta get some of those flasks, I have plenty of the fish sticks.

Yeah, i used my shadow fiend on the first evocation, but even then, i ran out pretty quick.

Hmm, well, herbalism is one of my main sources of income. I'm trying to save up for my epic flying and i really don't want to drop it now. I mean, dropping herbalism for a trinket(There are many alchemists in my guild who can make me potions so that's not a problem) so seems like an expensive move. My alt is only level 15, so it will be a while until he can make a lot with herbalism, so i think I'll keep it.

Yeah, I was thinking about doing that, I did draw a bit too much aggro in a few fights >_<

That was a problem. I have DBM and I just couldn't stay close enough to everyone to heal them while still being far enough so the sparks won't hurt many of us.

We have neither shaman, nor spriest keyed and available. Our best shaman has done like every heroic, but somehow isn't keyed!

Whitemend and Third Eye

Easier said than done. The mats for whitemend are like 1k+ gold. I'm trying to get my epic flying so I'm minimizing spending. I would love third eye, but we are focusing on kara right now. I don't think we are good enough for ZA yet.

Thanks a lot guys. I'll be sure to use the advice well. If you have any more tips, I'd love to hear them =D

Hello

Until I got geared up I had problems being OOM as well. I found a very nice Druid willing to Innervate me when I used every trick in the book up. Since I am now lightwell speced I toss that out to for the ranged, or by the healers, any way to get healing in that doesn't cost extra mana helps....alot!

Good luck

I don't know if this has been mentioned... but your shadowfiend restores more mana to you depending on how much damage it does. I save mine for the second evocate (though if we're running with a geared group for badges, we never makes it to a second evocate)... because even you have 100 mana shadowfiend on evocate = full mana bar.

It looks like you have enough bonus healing. The only thing I'd be worried about is your mana/5. Curator is a huge strain on the healers. If you're going to try curator with this gear, get yourself on a good mana potion rotation. That is, drink a potion when you're down 2.5-3k mana. As has been said, save your shadowfiend for the second evocate, although using it on the first isn't a game breaker.

I'd say switch all your gems to the +healing and mp/5 gems.

And get that 20 spell penetration off of your cloak.

Something useful...

Subtlety

Subtlety is *not* useful, especially given the price of primal shadows. Healing causes half-threat split over all targets - i.e. tiny amounts. The only time a healer should ever be drawing aggro is right at an aggro-wipe phase transition or add spawns, in which case that 2% won't help at all (a quick fade and a shield slam will be far and away more effective at keeping aggro off). Threat talents and enchants merely determines which healer gets killed first during a wipe.

*doy* sorry, bout that comment. For some reason when I was posting about the subtlety enchant I was thinking he was a shadow priest.

Stupid me :( <

Yeah, a cloak enchant for a healer is tricky. Because spell penetration is not useful when healing. I guess when you go to solo or PvP it is more useful.
#16 Dec 15 2007 at 9:33 AM Rating: Decent
Yeah, there really weren't too many choices for the back enchant. I couldn't find anyone with Subtlety, and even if I could, I don't think it would help too much.

Some random thoughts on curator, sorry about the very random order.

Prayer of mending. Love it, and cast it whenever it is up. The prayer of mending can be the most efficient mana spell for the curator fight. If it gets all 5 targets, that is some 4k healed, all costing 390 mana, before discounts. It can really save your mana. If you have a feral druid have them cast innervate on you before they start dpsing for curator. Use your inner focus when you don't think you will have to heal a while, the inner focus keeps you out of the 5 second rule, really helping you earn mana back. A paladins Seal of Wisdom during the evocations so you can wand curator and get mana back, while others use lock rocks or health pots during that evocation to top them off. Get creative how to get mana back, you would be surprised what all can work.

How will an epic flyer do anything for you? I see people who ignore craftables all the time to get a faster mount...I don't get it.

Get your tier5 craftables then work on moving faster.

You could argue that it will making your gathering faster and more profitable, but again not worth the up front cost. You could spec shadow and destroy mobs for hours and get more gold.

For a trinket

Best trinket in the game for healer and it costs zero dkp and is 100% drop. Just get it.

How? I tried killing elements, but not only were there many people there, but the drop rate is terrible. I can get 100-150g an hour with my herbalism. I could definitly get a lot more with an epic. Also, my dailies would get finished quicker, going anywhere in general would be quicker and save a fair amount of time. I just think it would be a wiser long term investment.

Yeah, it's a great trinket, but I'm not gonna give up my main form of money making just for a trinket.

This is by far the most important thing in the curator fight, everything else is just like every other fight. Use your shadowfiend during the evocate and you will recieve all your mana back. Down rank healing is also very helpful too, I use rank 2 greater heal as my down rank heal. Saves tons of mana when someone doesn't need a huge heal. As a priest you should pretty much be casting a heal always on boss fights, so i am usually casting my downrank heal. If my target is full health i just cancel the heal and start again.
