KTM or OmenFollow

#1 Dec 03 2007 at 2:11 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, I know KTM needs other people with KTM to gauge accuracy. But it has been so long since it's been updated what are the viable alternatives? I for one have not tried Omen but I hear it is a good if not better substitute. What I want to know is, does everyone need Omen for it to be accurate in a 25-man raid?

I hate KTM and multiple targets because the threat does not wipe between targets so you kinda have to guess where you are (thank god for FD and being range). I heard Omen changes it's aggro meter with each target, even if it is the same engagement. Nice. getting 40 other people to believe Omen is better, not nice. So, if I run both but keep Omen open will I still have accurate readings?

DEFINITELY OMEN.

I have tried both, and omen is way better. It is much clearer of to which target has the amount of the threat the meter is showing. It is also much more accurate, and frankly, it looks a lot better than KTM.

PS: get omen

Everything you were talking about is true about omen, it is just way better all-around. Raiding/non-raiding, it is still the best.

I use to swear by KTm on my priest... until I learned Omen took agro ratings from multiple targets. Also it has a TPS ( threat per second) which is nice, I can see if the warrior or who ever is tanking is going down or up in agro, and then can base if I can throw out a high agro spell like Devouring Plauge on a boss along with any other dots I want, with out worrying about the reprocusions *sp.

as i get higher in level I see more and more people have an agro management tool, and Omen will take KTM information, where I dont think KTM will take Omen. jsut another thing to keep in mind.

because of the mechanics of Threat, it's impossible to gauge the threat of other players without them running a threat meter, as well.

Personally, I use Omen. I switched to it after about three days of using KTM. KTM was glitchy, and didn't sync up with the tank a few too many times.

since switching to Omen, I've never had a problem. It also has a few cool features that KTM doesn't have.

It collapses into FuBar, so It doesn't take up time on my mini map. It also tells you when you've reached 90% of the lead threat holder's threat. It can also make the screen flash red, but I turned that off because it hurt my eyes.

I don't know if this is just something that I've seen, but sometimes it doesn't switch threat if I'm fighting two identical mobs, and my pet switches targets quickly. But most of the time, it switches just fine.

Omen will read KTM threat. KTM will not read Omen threat.

Need I say more? No...but I will...
Omen has better skins IMO. If you disagree and like the KTM skin, cool. Omen has the option of using the KTM skin.

Granted, you'll see some of the same bugs and glitches. But overall I think Omen > KTM. It's sort of like having me insult someone (KTM) and then having north come in and insult someone (Omen). You'll see the difference.

KTM will take omen readings.. At least I can see my roommate on it when he is running omen. I'm trying out Omen right now, but I've noticed at least two times when fighting a single mob I've pulled off of my pet while it still read me at 50-75%.

Omen.

Work on your Psychic abilities to inherently sense threat, then you will be ready.
Threat Meters are a crutch, but until you mater this I would suggest Omen. Smiley: sly

if you read the expanation on any site that has omen for download. it says it cant tell two mobs with the same names appart due to blizz not giving the code necessary to tell them appart. or some such. so im assuming all Threat mods will have this flaw.

You have some brown stuff on your nose there. ;)

But seriously, I didn't think people used KTM anymore, I thought they stopped updating that add-on around about 2.2?

Omen

Sometimes it resets in boss fights though, kinda unsettling not seeing the tank's name at the top of threat even though hes say ahead and tanking fine.

Actually there is an option in Omen to output to KTM. It is off by default for some reason. Smiley: confused

I used KTM for a while and wish I knew about OMEN sooner.

Yes, which KTM bypasses by being able to set master target. But that is kind of pointless on trash anyway (which are the only mobs you'll see with the same name).

I believe I read on the worldofraids.com frontpage that Blizzard will redesign
the combat logs in the not-so-distant future, giving separate ID's for mobs with
the same name. Dunno any ETA tho, but I guess all damage and threat meters will be
rewritten then, maybe blizzard will even incorporate their own like they have
adapted many other functions that you previously needed 3rd party addons for...

I have both just to make sure everyone else knows my threat. I have so few add-ons that an extra threat meter does nothing to my memory usage.

The only one I have visible is Omen. The colors are better, and it's easier to read. I can hold a nice 115% of the tank's threat with Omen. I tried doing it with just KTM, and pulled aggro at 100%. Almost died. Then I set KTM to not be visible ever.

It is set at 90% as default.
I have it at 120%, teaches me to be on my feet about aggro management :p

I believe KTM takes range into account in the aggro meter so when you hit 100% you are really 130%.... which could explain pulling mobs at 70%-99% as well if you change your distance...

I now run both threat meters. I noticed Omen bugging a few times during Heroic Sethekk so I pulled up KTM and ran them both the whole time. In doing so I noticed myself over 110% on Omen and still markedly under the tanks aggro on KTM. So I asked about it in guild chatand had some poeple clarify the differences in each meters readings.

But yea the meter telling you when you reach a certain % of the tank's aggro is priceless. Omen is nice and reads KTM so all the better.

Omen is only buggy when everyone else is using KTM. Do you know why Omen was created in the first place? The author of Omen was a big raiding person and loved KTM but noticed that it really used too much system resources, much more than was really needed to do its job. So the guy wrote a message to the KTM author asking him if he would make some changes to reduce the system resource usage. The KTM author straight up refused. So the guy decided that rather than trying to argue with the KTM author, he would go and write his own threat tracker that would use much less resources and do it without the need to set a main target. Thus Omen was born.

Omen is night and day different from KTM, though they perform the same task. If you're still using KTM, then you're a good 8+ months behind the curve. You can dig up boss kill video from MONTHS ago of the top raiding guilds that were using Omen.

I like Omen, but I have problems, which I know are mu own foolishness. I also use Cosmos and Omen says it is for ACE2. The bars will tear loose and attach to the mouse Icon and I cannot free it without logging off the game, So I like the aggro veiw but hate problems
