Gear check for HeroicsFollow

My guild is approaching the point where we want to start doing heroics. Can I ask for some input on my gear/build? The only two greens I have left are felscale pieces, but at least they give my +15 to my crit. And I only have 1 Beast Lord piece (and none from SV, even after 7 runs).

I think I'm good to go, but impartial observations are always welcome.

Nosecrusher

Just noticed the weapons I have equipped. They're not real (I'm trying to cap my sword and crossbow skills atm). I do have Sonic Spear (no chant yet) and Valanos' Longbow with the +crit scope.

To be honest I don't really know enough about survival to make a truly informed statement, however I think you would be fine for the easier heroics.

Edit: Get a new trinket. Hourglass of the Unraveler is sexy.

If you're geared for kara, you're geared for heroics. If you're sportin' mostly blues, you should be set.

Yeah, you're ready for heroics.
But replace your pants and boots...
Boots in Sethekk halls (first boss) legs in either SV or CoT: Durnholde.

Me again ;]
There was armory issue when I asked for advice on my char several days ago, so asking again ;]
Am I ready for Kara?
I do have some gear that's not on Aethien list, but I will own storm helm and thick netherscale breastplate as soon as i grind the required primals.
The main question is: is my current gear worth high-end enchants, or should I wait for something better (especially boots, shoulders, and both weapons)
armory link in the sig :)

Short answer, no. Gear (see below) and spec both need some work. Thick hide isn't going to do you or your pet any good in heroics or Kara. If anything turn on you or your pet you're going to be dead in 2-3 swings one way or the other. Move two of those points to Improved revive pet, and the other either to endurance training(my preference) or back to thick hide. Move the points in spirit bond to Animal Handler, more hits for your pet and more procs for FI. Max either Improved Hunter's Mark or Efficiency and put the remaining points into Go for the Throat, see notes on Animal Handler.

Helmet: You have less than 7K hit points, and while Aethien and others will say this is the minimum HPs for Kara (and I tend to aggree since a lot of mobs in Kara throw some damage around willy nilly) I'd go for the pure AP gems, and splurge on the expensive ones, it is a good hat.

Neck: Good, but put another 16 AP gem in it

Shoulders: Get the BL ones from SV.

Back: is good, hit it with 12 Agi.

Chest: I'd say get the Laughing Skull Battleharness or BL Cuirass , but you desperately need the Hit rating. Hit it with +6 stats though. You have a ton of mana regen already.

Wrists: Fine.

Gloves: Fine.

Belt: There is a belt for the quest to kill the last guy in Shattered Halls that gives a very nice +hit belt. Get it. If you can't the Telaari Hunting Girdle off of one of the bosses (the first I think) has more total AP, but you'll lose a little bit of crit and int.

Pants: Fine. Scaled Greaves of Patience out of CoT: Durnholde are better if memory serves.

Boots: Replace them. First boss (I think) in heroic ramps has better ones with Hit Rating. Also, any of the pvp boots should be better and pretty easy to get.

Ring 1: Get the Ravenclaw Band off of the last boss in Sethek Halls. Very nice and more hit rating for you.

Ring 2: Will do, you need the hit rating.

Trinket 1: Hourglass of the Unraveler from CoT: Dark Portal

Trinket 2: Fine

Weps: Run SLabs till you get Sonic Spear, you need the hit rating. If you 've run it 57 times and still can't get it pick up Crystalforged Waraxe. Cheap on the AH and very nice. Valanos' Longbow, also cheap, and one of the best ranged weps you can get pre-Kara.

Edit: Try to get a couple of pieces of Desolation gear. +hit set bonus, and it is good stuff too. Also, get Natasha's choker from the BEM quest. More hit rating, more hit rating, more hit rating.

i'm OK with getting the waraxe, probably i will, as soon as i log in, but getting the BOW on my DWARF is the single thing that i refuse to do TOTALLY... i'm too old of a fantasy-guy, and a dwarf with a bow just doesn't seem good... i'd rather spend crapillion G on don santos or levelling my engi to get the ornate khorium rifle, run my *** through hellfire citadel crapillion of times to farm HH rep or even run with my current rifle than go with the bow...
too bad, that there are not many good crossbows - crossbow is the thing that is acceptable with a dwarf, but not a BOW, dangit :>

If you want to raid, you'll have to settle with lesser looks for better dps, like it or not.
I had the same gun as you have now and when i change to Valanos my dps bumped up quite a bit.

And there's only very few better ranged weapons pre-raid.
Plus its dirt cheap so even if you hate it, at least use it when you raid.

Bullshit... Unless your raidgroup is at the very beginning of Karazhan, and no one there has raided even once, you can deal with one or two shortcomings. Granted, his current rifle isn't too good for Karazhan, but it can be outweighed by some simple gearing up in other slots.

Hell, I've seen people start out raiding wearing two or more greenies, but making up for it with the quality of their other items. Steelhawk comes very early in Karazhan. There's a crossbow for him, if rifles are out of the question. With a bit of luck in Opera, he can upgrade there. By the time the rest of his gear can stand up against later bosses like Prince, he will most likely have leveled his engineering far enough.

This is just like my Night Elf's hatred for guns. They just don't suit Night Elves, neither in looks nor lore, and I'd rather be raiding with a green questreward than Wolfslayer. The scary part? I would still most likely hold my own because I can point to the rest of my gear and use appropriate ammo. It would indeed lower my DPS, but the raid would still succeed.

As I've said in the past, play and gear as you wish. If the best possible combination of gear makes you want to grimace as soon as you see the logon screen, settle for the next best combination. Just like I am going to settle for dual spiteblades instead of Legacy. It will lower my DPS a bit, but it will definitely fit my Hunter so much better than the alternative.

Legacy does look god awful. That Vengeful Axe isn't that much better looking, but at least it isn't pastel and the stats are very pretty.

I have to really disagree with Ieatrocks about your chestpiece. The Chestpiece from BM is nice, and it'll increase your tooltip DPS a bit, but you don't have enough hit rating get rid of the breastplate of rapid striking.

I'm not saying you wont suceed but imo going with weaker gear when you can upgrade easely is stupid for raiding.
Even if you just use the bow for raiding, its still worth it imo.

It could be just me, but i hate not upgrading if its easy and cheap to do.
Even if i dont like the looks (or sound).
I ran around with a gun from 61-65 and from 66-70 and although i dont like them i'd do it again.
Ofcourse, i switched back to a bow as fast as i could, but only if its an upgrade.

Oh, and there's a gun at the end of mechanar i think that is pretty sweet.

was just about to mention that one, Telescopic sharprifle is (one of?)
the best blue ranged weapon(s) out there, and shouldn't be too hard
to get hold of.

In kara you got the Wolfslayer, which is arguably the best ranged weapon
in the instance.

And if you're good at the arena, I noticed that this season they have added
a ranged weapon of each type, all with the same stats, so now you don't
have to settle for the lame crossbow :)

There is quite a few alternatives even if you have strong preferences.

I'll probably set up with the Bloodwarder Rifle (Q reward, so it's like a 100% drop) or Ornate Khorium Rifle, depending on what I will be able do grab first... I'm MOSTLY solo player, so little gimpage in farming is not THAT bad for me, and rying to find a decent group when I have the time for playing can be a bit of a problem, unless I run with my ex-guildies ;]
