Sonic Spear – Savagery or 35 Agility?Follow

One of my hunters just got her Sonic Spear last weekend, on my first run through SLs I might add. I expect she’ll be using it for a long while so I’d like to enchant it. From what I’ve read savagery and +35 agility are the two best choices. But I’m not sure which is better.

If I understand this correctly these are choices:

Savagery

70 attack power

35 Agility

35 attack power
70 armor
About 1% dodge
0.88% crit (according to the sticky post)

Cashara is a beast mastery hunter if that makes any difference. And my characters are all very slow to upgrade their gear. So it’ll most likely be some time before Cash’s quest\AH gear is replaced. I’m leaning towards savagery, but it would be helpful to get some other opinions before I use up the mats.

What is your Tooltip dps? Go with Savagery if it is below 268, go for 35 agility if it is over 268 and you are under 20 % crit.

If you're BM or MM go savagery. If you're SV go +35 agility.

Since you're BM, go savagery.

My answer would be Neither.

Vengeful Gladiator's Waraxe

This weapon only costs 1000 Arena Points with no Rating Pre-Req.

So even if you haven't ever been a member of an Arena team, starting one fresh; you will be able to get this weapon within 3-4 weeks. And that would be from 0 points.

Then I would throw +35 Agility on that. This Axe will definitely be with you for a long time.

If you intend on raiding, go with Agility. Agility scales with other gear (since crit scales with other gear) and from Kings, while AP is static. If you don't intend on raiding and/or PvP a fair amount, Savagery is a more reliable DPS boost.

Savagery. It's for where you're at.

Since I believe you don´t raid, Savagery hands down.
As a beast master, you need at least the equivalent of a few kara-pieces to start focusing on agility over AP. 300-320 tool-tip dps IIRC.

Thanks for the advice. I checked and Cashara’s DPS with her new spear is 256. I’m not raiding at the moment, but I did get my first key segment while in SL. So I may eventually do a bit of raiding for the first time. But even so, that may be some time in coming. So I think I’ll go with savagery for now.

I'm a BM Hunter and I personally went with the +35 Agility, you just get so much more from it than the straight 70AP. Agility scales better with other gear and gives you more benefits when buffed than a straight AP boost. 35Ap translates to about what 5-10 DPS? the 70 Armor, increased benefit from Kings, the Crit boost along with the normal 35 AP from the Agility, I say +35 Agility is superior to Savagery for a Hunter simply because of it's utility.

35 Agility.

I would say if you are a SV hunter go with the +35 agility, otherwise Savagery all the way.

Yes true agility scales with gear etc, but agility is not nice to have in PVP. I see that you have a Dwarf Hunter(Alliance). Now... As I'm experiencing the BG's is that Horde are owning us hard most of the time and that there are A LOT of Arms Warriors. Dodge = Death against Arms Warriors. Another point that was said is the crit you get form +35 agility. Helps absolutely nothing against high Resilience opponents.

As for Raid... True the +35 agility would get a boost from BoK(Blessing of Kings). but how much?? BoK increase it by 10% and that is 3,5 agility = 3,5 AP. That removes the argument about Savagery=70AP and +35 Agility=35AP, but don't take the 70AP because the difference is 5-10 DPS. The crit can help towards DPS if you are Raiding a lot.

If have a BM Hunter and I took Savagery, because I PVP a lot and +35 agility is not going to help me in anyway.

Hope it helps a bit.

If you are over the tipping point 35 Agi will give more DPS regardless of spec, at least from everything I've seen here and from cheeky's spreadsheet. That being said, it doesn't seem to be a huge difference and Savagery is cheaper. Personally, I'm still using Savagery on my SS, but when I get the S3 waraxe I'll probably throw 35AGI on it since I won't be replacing it until WotLK comes out in all likelihood.

**edit** hmm quote didnt work** am respoding to Nubkek who was refering to tooltip dps.

Dont realy get this part. Or perhaps im just missing something.
eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Zenedar&n=Hunteritzz

Hm, atm buffed @ armory I see, and have other neck + legs now, but ok.

tooltip = 337.6 dps // 23.62% crit. Not that i m b a, I know.. still some enchants to put on, and upgrade some gear.

Cant recall which topic it was, but wasnt it something like, Aim for ~2k AP first, then go for AGI and hit ?
So wouldnt Savagery be better than 35agi ?

I dunno about that. The sticky says that a BM hunter should aim for 20 % crit and 1.5k RAP. I think you mean a MM hunter with the 2k RAP?
#15 Dec 04 2007 at 1:39 AM Rating: Decent
Hmm, possibly im mistaking ..
But if thats the case about BM.
Unbuffed (only with own aspect) I have ~1600 AP and 21% crit. About 335 tooltip dps, 87 hit rating. (armory still shows old gear :s)

I shall take a look at other threats as well, but in my case, with the above numbers. What should I aim for now ? ap/crit/hit ?

Well, I'm half Kara geared and almost all the rest is 70 blues (Bladefist's breadth, Raven Claw Band, and Necklace of the Deep being the only pre-70 blues) and I'm only sitting at ~1500 RAP and 22% to crit so in my opinion the numbers in the sticky are high.

Hit. Get around 120 minimum for raiding. Until around 135 or so I don't think there is anything you can get that will be even close to being as large of a DPS increase. Beyond that go for agi for the time being. If memory serves there is a point at which crit rating becomes greater than agi for BM and MM and it is around 365 tooltip, though I'm not sure about that.
#17 Dec 04 2007 at 2:14 AM Rating: Decent
Well in that case Ieatrocks, Sonic spear or the vengefull warr axe would be a better upgrade for me than Legacy, to start with, since my current AP/crit is "ok"

Couldnt find it in the sticky tho :s About the BM stats.

If you are BM or MM spec the S3 Axe is about as good as it gets until Twin Blade of the Phoenix (though I haven't done a side by side comparison, so I'm not sure). Getting hit rating is easy in Kara though. Almost all hunter pieces have some on it. Worgen Claw Necklace, Steelhawk Xbow, and Romulo's Poison Vial(though it seems to be a pretty meh trinket) all come to mind from the bottom floor alone. Plus there is the VE faction ring.

Edit:

The stats listed in the sticky are:

for every hunter, ~7k hp ~6.5k mp will be good
BM: 20% crit and 1700AP

I found it for you. It's in Aethien's pre raid sticky
Sticky wrote:

BM: 20% crit and 1700AP
MM: 20% crit and 2000AP
SV: 27.5% crit and 1550AP (650-700 Agi unbuffed)
(AP with AotH)
Note: these stats are to aim for, they are relatively high and generally high enough for the whole of karazhan.

The only thing I'm not ok with is the relative low number for the SV spec. As SV has a 4% AP increase through talents and a lot of AP comes from the increased agi, 1650 or 1700AP is doable.
I'd say SV: > 27.5% crit, >650agi, 1650AP

There lies the problem, didnt check the pre-raid, but the other sticky ;p
Nevertheless, thx for stats overview.

I just picked up my S3 Axe, and now I need an enchant. Obviously its between Savagery and +35. I would like a little imput on my situation. I PvP and raid, equally. Here are my stats:
581-781 Damage
320.0 DPS
1572 Power
21.61 Crit
443 Agi

Now, with those stats and the fact that I PvP and raid, equally, what is my best enchant?
#23 Dec 25 2007 at 8:59 AM Rating: Decent
What's your specc? Just curious really, since I would've recommended +35 agility anyway. 35 attack power and increased critrating will scale far better in a raid environment than Savagery. For PvP it will increase your crit (always important in PvP) and Dodge/armor. Savagery gives you just an AP increase, and that's it.

Also remember the Gemming rule. Past 300ish tooltip DPS, you will benefit more from Agility gems than Attack Power gems. The same thing can be said for enchants, so at 320 tooltip DPS you can say you'd prefer +35 agility over Savagery anyway.

Opps, sorry. Really thought I put it in the post. Im BM. 41/20

I would prefer the +35 agility myself, you are getting nearly a +1% crit chance upgrade, which you want if you are BM to get as many kill commands as you can.

As a side note, I really am starting to dislike Murmur. I have attempted him about 10+ times with different groups. The best I've done is got him down to 3% and I was the last man standing with my hunter. I want that damn sonic spear! I swear if it does not drop when I finally do beat him...man I just don't know!
#26 Dec 25 2007 at 12:16 PM Rating: Decent
Seriously, down him before you whine about him. I've never wiped on Murmur, but nor have I ever seen Murmur drop Sonic Spear. And I am exalted with Lower City on Shadowlabs alone. Well, I saw him drop it once. And that was when I was healing in there on my Druid. It got dissed by the party...
