Look both ways before crossing the street....

Don't take any wooden nickels...

I could think of a few others, but those will suffice. Check out the mage stickies (2 of em) at the top of this forum, you'll find a lot of answered questions there. If you have a Specific Question, please feel free to come back and ask.

Welcome to mage-hood. You *must* posses a sense of sarcasm to properly operate a mage.

And thick skin. I mean, with cloth armor, you really really need a thick skin. Smiley: nod

Here's what i've learned from playing a mage from lvl 1 to T4 thus far.

1. The "should I lvl fire or frost" question will not be trully answered... ever.

2. Level frost

3. Locks will eat you alive.

4. Healidans will **** you off

5. Fire>frost when it comes to raids no matter what the pvpers say

6. See number 3

7. You will be a tailor at some point

8. Every time you look in LFG for (instert instance) there will be 4 groups looking for more and 6 people looking to join a group. All 4 groups will have a mage and 4 of those other 6 will be a mages.. rest will be rouges.

9. Kiteing in PvP will be uselss after lvl 20. No point in making someone run slow when you can't run any faster due to hamstring, frost shock, rogue poision, hammer of justice, fear, scorp sting... ect

10. GOD DAMN PALLY'S AGAIN!!!!

11. Use mana shield/frost barrier as much as possible. Soon 1 hit will wipe them from you.

12. 5% HP + ice block = pointless

13. Using your epic mount to get on the roof in Darkshire and fireing off fireblasts at ally as they try to go though town is a great way of blowing off some steam.

14. You have every right to tell everyone what your trink/ap/pom/pyro just crit for... because that can never match that.

15. You can't pom-sheep people off their flyers and watch them fall to their death (so sad)

16. You are a walking consession stand... get used to it

17. If they ask for a port while they're in a group they don't need a port that badly

18. You kill that lock yet?

19. Lighting stuff on fire is fun.

20. You have just rolled the best toon in the game. You will be like no other and your skills will be needed by everyone.

21.warrs are fun to kill

just thought i would add some of my own

I think I will weigh in on this as well:

23. You and the Spirit Healer will be on a first name basis in the BG's
24. Roasting & scorching enemies from behind hills and never being seen is worth the price of admission to the GY
26. Rogues are even MORE fun to kill
27. The best way of learning to live is to die... and often
28. Be a solo artist and USE groups to get what you need
29. Don't Panic
30. Read this forum often and put what you learn into practice! There are some true masters of the class & I wouldn't be the mage I am today without the sound advice gleaned from within these "walls".

Have fun, be smart and welcome to mage-hood, the greatest class in WoW!

31. When you are in orgri and someone demands food..remind them kindly that they can buy their own. (I am not a #$#%$#^ VENDOR!!!!!)

32. It's even funnier to slow fall and ap-trink-pom-pyro and 1hit someone from the air.

33. Fire elementals are immune to fire.(a reminder for myself)

34. Slow fall will never work when falling from the edge of Netherstorm.

35. On bossfight never start with ap-pyro-pom-pyro...

36. Whatever proff you take..make sure you always have money for repairs..Your best friend will be the Spirit Healer.

37. There is no point in slowing a hunter.

Thread hi-jack alert!

You can check your gear at the WoW armory. But if you have not logged in for a while, it may not be on that site any longer.

This lets you look at your character without having to log on to the actual game.

As far as mage advice...I've found one piece of knowledge incrediably important.

---Never be afraid to run.---

Use your skills to get away from whatever is attacking you and either turn and nuke it or just keep running. I know it seems like a stupid piece of advice. But I don't know how many times I died because I was to stubborn/stupid to back off at the appropriate time. :-)

Edit: ack I'm too slow with the armory link

Ha ha. That is the best piece of advice, especially if the mage is an alt. It really took a while for me to get used to running away from fights. My main is a Pally, and I'm used to running into mobs, having armor, and healing myself...so there was quite an adjustment in playstyle. After many many deaths, I've learned to turn tail and run if things aren't going well.

Also, mages need room to kill mobs. It's difficult to kill them in close quarters because you can easily get overwhelmed. I also learned this the hard way. I've tried sneaking through mobs to get by an area. Aggro one accidentally...and all hell breaks loose. Unless I'm lucky and can kill it really really fast without having to move very much.

This is ESPECIALLY true in PVP ganking encounters.

I don't know if you play on a PVP server, but if you do you will quickly learn who you can handle, who you can't, who can catch you and who you can get away from.

If you get Ambushed by a Rogue while grinding you have 2 options:

FNova, Sheep, Run or
FNova, Sheep, Bandaid, Evocate and try to beat him.

The beauty of the mage class if that you have this option -- So many classes don't! Not only do you have beautiful techniques like Polymorph and Frost Nova, but once you get running your skills like Frost Armor/Manashield/Ice Barrier, Counterspell, Blink, and Slow (and many, many more) all help you get the hell out of a fight.

The only thing that can even come close is fearing and running, but even that against high level characters isn't as effective as a Mage's escape tactics.

"A mage that lives to drink, eat, and fight again is more use than one who dies and gets corpse camped."

Rogues get to pick their fights;
Mages can reset them.

Polymorph is singularly and arguably the best control tactic for a 1 on 1 fight, sans a Fear (which has other potential problems in given situations). If you get ambushed by any class, your first action should be to Polymorph them, unless it's a melee class, which you should then Frost Nova, Blink, and then Polymorph.

Bandage up and start up with your major nuke, preferably an AP-Trinket'd Pyroblast.

When you hit higher levels, you'll get special trinkets that you can use for a temporary spike in spell damage. When someone talks about using a trinket like that, those are what they usually mean.

It's funny this is always mentioned because one of the girls I level with in my guild is a mage and we call her the 'crap dead' girl.
