Perhaps it is an adjustment to switch specs, but to be honest even with the improvements to ret, it doesn't seem like overall the best spec for Paladins, or that it is Blizzard's intentr for it to be so. In part this is due to the overall hybrid problem and the fact that the moment a class becomes quite good at three roles, everyone and his mother starts to scream for nerfs. As it is, in PvP the Paladin is an outstanding single target healer - efficient to beat the band healing one target, and quite tough if it gets attacked as well as having "oh ****" options available. It's nice to want to go into PvP and kill stuff (it's quite understandable, it's what motivates a lot of people to PvP after all!), but the Paladin, imo, really shines in PvP as a healer much more than it does as a DPSer. I honestly think that people who are really into DPSing should try another class, because while Paladins *can* DPS reasonably well with very nice gear, because their healing is among the best available in the game, it's almost always going to be viewed by other classes as the highest and best use of the Paladin in PvP situations. So while it's fine to play as you want and all of that, it's also fine for other players to think you will be contributing more overall for the team effort if you were specced and geared to heal very well, rather than DPSing kind of well, struggling against an imperfect spec unless you have absolutely top notch gear.
