So i want to PVP with a warrior?Follow

#1 Dec 02 2007 at 8:58 AM Rating: Decent
Ok so im interested in making a warrior for PVPing endgame and i had a few questions.

First im planning on going alliance and i wanted to be a night elf. I dont like being short humans bore me and my main is draeni pally. not that it really matters.

I read the sticky and i had a few build question.

He listed these two builds as good damage builds:
33/25/3

18/43/0

The first one i believe is a 2h spec with a lot of slamming and mortal strike. The second is a sustained damage DW spec correct?

Which would be better in general PVP and how would i be effective with it?

If i plan on going blacksmithing i should go hammersmith for the 2h build and what for the dw build?

Also i was wondering i plan on doing a lot of BGs to earn S1 arena gear because i heard that i need resilience to compete in arena pvp. What is resilence and about how much do i need to compete with a semi-compitent team of RL friends?

Thanks in advance.

They're both pre-2.3, with the two talent swaps. Trust me on this one.

For PvP, Arms is the way to go by far. Your choices are either 33/25/3 (Hybrid PvP/PvE Arms DPS), 35/23/3 (Sacrifices PvE damage viability for pure focus on PvP talents, esp. group) or 35/5/21 (Hybrid PvP/Prot spec, sacrifices Enrage for triggered Concussion Blow and Last Stand). I've been experimenting with the last one and it works quite well for PvP; it's hard to really understand just how useful a triggered, long-duration stun like Concussion Blow is until you've tried it. Last Stand has saved my hash before too.

Ah my mistake sorry

I think i may be leaning towards the second build you just suggested. this character will be full on PvP speced and geared.

Couple of questions about it:

2h right?

also you put sword spec down is there any reason for this? or is the blacksmithed 2h hammer still the way to go? ive never really heard about the 2h sword as great or anything which makes me rethink doing blacksmithing in favor of something else like engeneering? or is the sword still worth it?

It's just the default weapon spec. You pick the one to go with the weapon you have.

If you're smithing a weapon (or buying one with Arena points), Mace is definitely the way to go.

K thanks for the info and sorry to be stupid but

what is resilence?

i hear its almost required to be effective in PvP but i have no clue at all what it actually does or how much i need? any thoughts?

You get it from PvP gear. It reduces the chance of attacks to crit you (like Defense, but it also works on spells) and also reduces the damage that a crit does. It also gives a set % reduction to all DoT damage.

Basically, it's not that big of a deal in small amounts but once you start acquiring decent amounts of it (a la PvP gear) you become immensely harder to kill. It also gives a small chance for abilities that are normally triggered by crits (Enrage) to proc off a normal hit. Bursting you down stops being an option; it's even more potent for certain classes (Priests) that have very strong defensive abilities on crits, as they become quite literally impossible to burn down without massive dispelling.

I'm glad you said that, I've been eyeing the 35/5/21 build for quite some time now. I think I'll respec to it today. :]

Of those two full-on PvP builds (aka forget the first one) which would you recommend for arena? Or are they both fairly viable?

As to the OP, you could also try a prot build, although I dont know if it's as viable now that deathwish is in arms. Something along the lines of this and if you focus on shield block you can still pump out some pretty nice damage while being incredibly hard to kill. Granted that may not be the optimal build, but I whipped it up as an example.

And I'm not sure if the same is true for warrior gear, but if you add up all the S1 arena gear and S3 honor gear (which I'd get while you're doing the BG's) for hunters you can end up with ~ 7.51% reduced chance for enemies to crit you and 15.02% less damage on crits.
