I read the lockpicking FAQ, and in it it says for 170 - 175 to go back to your poison quest and grind on that chest. Then move on to Sturdy Junkboxes or SM Cath for a while.

For me, the poison quest box grayed out at 170. Sturdy Junkboxes and Steel Lockboxes are red to me until 175, and the lesser junkboxes are already gray.

So where can I skill up 170 - 175? Do engineers make practice locks that high or anything of that nature?

Oh hell I didn't even think of those. They might actually be green, I'll look them up and see where I can PP some. Thanks!

Ok, we know that the lockpicking guide is a bit outdated so that the specific spots might not be accurate.

But that shouldn't be a problem: remember you can talk to the rogue trainer at all times and he will tell you in which exact zone you should head to find boxes that will enable you to lvl up your LP skill.

Also, provided you have a Pickpocket macro on all your stealth attacks, you should nearly always have more than enough boxes of adequate level to raise your LP skill when you lvl up your character.

If you read the Lockpicking FAQ all the way through - people have added places to go to pick the boxes scattered around different areas of the world. There seems to be boxes for every stage of lockpicking and they seem to be in areas with mobs around the right level for you to fight while picking the boxes at that level. I think the pickpocketed boxes from mobs tend to be around the same level as the lockboxes you find on the ground with those mobs.

I don't remember off-hand which area is best for your level but I think my progression led me from the beginner lockboxes to Zoram Strand (or Wetlands around the Murloc areas) to the underwater Naga area off the coast of Desolace. Somewhere around that time, the lockboxes around Sunken Temple in Swamp of Sorrows were good. I think after that I hit the boxes around the Pirate Camp in Tanaris. I believe the next place I started picking boxes was in Searing Gorge.

I try to keep my lockpicking close to the maximum at all times so I can lockpick anything I come across in my travels. I always laugh when I see Rogues looking for other Rogues to pick their locks for them because they weren't high enough. :)

The boxes in the Pirate Camp will take you to 300. I just used those to get my Lockpicking up so I could open the outlands junkboxes that were cluttering my bank. Right now I am stashing them to keep help me reach my cap each level.

I remember hitting the blank spot between 170-175 as well. I beleive I went back to Badlands and picked the footlockers in the Dwarf hold up on the hill.

I think I PP'd the trolls in northwestern STV around that lvl.

None of the PP boxes work between 170-175. The only way to get points in that range is to do footlockers in the zone your trainer sends you too.
