heroic tank questionFollow

Don't worry it's not another, rate my build, or armor check. Just have been considering dusting off my old tanking pally and working on getting some better armor in preparation for one day running kara with guild.

So my question is to those that have either tanked any heroics after the 2.3 patch or pretty much anyone that has run any heroics after they lowered the rep requirement.

For me I plan on running a few more of the lvl 70 instances just to touch up my gear as well as some much better enchants. So I guess what I'm looking for is for a few tanks outthere to tell me that even though bliz in all their wisdom dropped the rep requirements for heroic keys, people are still realizing that they need much better gear than what they have currently at only needing to be honored with the different factions.

In my experience people are being fairly smart about Heroics, and not running them simply cause they now can. I haven't come across too many more people with sub-optimal gear then previously, but you will always find someone who thinks they're good enough when they're in all quest greens >.>

I always, ALWAYS armory a potential healer before joining a group/inviting to a group, DPS not so much. Or, if I happen to be in the same area as them, just "Inspect" since you can view talents now as well as gear. I would recommend doing the same to anyone looking for a good Heroic run, or if you're Holy, armory your potential tanks.

does armory update often? or just when you log out? i know alot of times im logging off in my quest gear because i actually solo in it due to all of it having spell damage. and i put on my really nice tank gear when im . . well . . tanking. armory can be alittle missleading if that it only updates on log out.

Indeed, Armory is randomly reliable. Like Ruen says, most people log out in their solo gear. I've just recently started to get used to logging in PvE healing gear, but I know most people don't.

What you can do however is ask for a tank's armor/health/defense. That should give a good idea of their gear and capability. Then it's all up to the player's skills. Same with healers and everyone else, though I dunno what kind of stats are good for DPSers, it seems to vary a lot.

Yea, I know it's whatever you log out in, but it's still a good idea/guidline. Chances are if your soloing gear is crap your normal gear won't be much better, or else why would you even use it? Besides it's more for the spec then anything. Granted that person may have been one spec and then respecced after logging back in, but anyway I can minimize the chance of getting an undergeared healer/tank, I'm willing to take.

I don't know, all my effort goes into gearing up my tanking set and the odd pieces that I've picked up along the way have been mostly for my healing set. My solo set is greens and blues whereas my tanking set is all blues (some from heroics) with an odd purple.

I wear my solo set because it gives me more than twice the spell damage and mana as my tanking set. I kill stuff faster in it and am not completely out of mana after each encounter.

If you saw my solo set you'd think me probably very new to 70 with crappy tanking gear. That would not be the case at all.

my solo gear is complete crap as well. for pretty much the same reason. but for what i need it to do, its far better then my 'specialized' gear.
