Some simple gear questionsFollow

Looked over the stickies and didn't really see the answers to my specific questions.

A bit of a preface: my talents are specced 41 in Beastmaster, 18 in Marksman. I'm level 68. I am built to give good dps but also good soloing.

Right now I am using a green polearm I got from a Sporeggar quest.

Survivalist's Pike

+21 agility
+30 stam
+20 intellect
+40 attack power

I just got Terokk's Quill last night.

+54 agility
+33 stamina

I'm not sure which to use. The way I see it:
Survivalist's Pike gives me +7 more attack power, but a substantially smaller chance to crit. It also gives me 3 less stamina, which is of no consequence. +20 intellect on the Pike is nice, as it helps me grind longer.

Now, as I spend my time largely divided between instance runs, I can see bonuses to both. Terokk's seems to be worse for soloing as more crits = harder for pet to hold aggro and more int = longer grinding sessions. So, would it be best to use Survivalist's for soloing, Terokk's for grouping, or am I totally wrong on how to gear a hunter?

Also, which is better for a BM hunter, +35 agility to 2-handed weapon or Savagery? Does this depend on how much attack power / crit chance I currently have?

You have it right. The Pike will be better for grinding due to less spiky damage, and more int, while the quill is better for instances. At your level put savagery. There is a turning point to go with all agility, but that happens when you've geared up quite a bit. Don't bother to enchant the pike, and honestly I'd recommend just waiting to get the sonic spear or the HH/thrallmar rep reward and enchant that.

Actually your best bet is to get the S3 hunter weapon as it is great and only 1000 points. here

these can be used to figure out what enchants will work better.

Yeah, toss a +35 agi or Savagery on both of them and use the Survivalists Pike for soloing and Terokk's Quill for instancing and PvP.

Thank you for the answers. I'm not sure if I'll get either enchanted, but I have plenty of funds for it! Funds I would rather save for an epic flyer...

nope. The one for hunters is cheaper and doesn't require a rating b/c it's not our primary weapon.

this is exactly what I did until I got my sonic spear which I now use full time with +35agi on it.

The S3 axe for hunters is only 1000 points, but if you can get to the vendor they're listed separately, if I recall, which may be part of the confusion. So you see it listed first for 3750, and a page or so later, it's listed again for the hunters.

PVP weapons are out of the question, sadly. My druid and my warrior are the characters I've done the pvp grind with. My hunter is purely pve. Not that I don't think a hunter could be good or fun with pvp, I just don't have the time to do the grind on that many characters.

It doesn't take much time to play 10 times a week in the arena, if you have a couple of friends to team up with. Should be able to get 1000 arena points in 4 weeks, even if you're getting mashed. Who knows, you might even enjoy it, just don't worry about it if you get steamrollered :)
