Is gladiator gear hands down, the best gear in the game?

What do you want to use it for?
The season 3 Vengeful Gladiator gear is on par with raiding gear with the Merc Gladiator gear being a tier below. There is no one best in this game.

Exactly and if you have two sets of gear of the same tier. The pvp one will be better for pvp and the pve will be better for pve in most cases.

Indeed, though I would equip a pair of Merciless/Vengeful Gladiator's gauntlets for my healing set over any other piece in the game. That 2% crit to FoL is sexy.
Holy Light is used more in pvp…I never quite got the 2% crit bonus to FoL on a pvp item but they are ubersexy

edit: and from the pieces ive compared, i would prefer T4 over S3 arena gear for PvE save the shoulders/weapon since they arent free epics.

the gear in this game, the sets rather, all have different funtions - and different classes use them much differently than the next!
Take for instance Prot paladins, we tank in av, yet we have no complete tanking set from battlegrounds. Thats an idea! Blizz should make an AV defense set! (I am also not complaining about the badge set - blizz made it up to us)
However if a Prot Paladin takes the say retribution stuff to an endgame raid to tank, or even a 5 man he would have a hard time. Althought it has been done (with more healing and alot of buffs /gems /enchants on the pally, it's not functional.
The sets do different thinga for different classes/specs. One's flaws is another's strengths.

For BG's and the like, I agree. But Arena... geez. I've gone up in +Heal significantly since my first games but I still cannot just use FoL. Focus-fired team members get decimated if I don't use max-rank HL. (Especially now that Hunters can also cut healing in half)
EDIT: Perhaps I should note that my current 5v5 team is composed with casual PvPers who could still learn a thing or two, and that I'm the only healer keep 4 people up. (Or trying to >_>)

Well, i only 2v2 on my pally and FoL works great. I can see it not being able to keep up with the DPS barrage that happens in 5v5s.
Its a lot harder to silence it and of course the mana efficiency is top notch.
