PVE Gear 'bleh-ness'Follow

#1 Nov 27 2007 at 3:54 PM Rating: Excellent
So here I am looking over the loot in SSC and the Eye and I can't help but feel a huge sentiment of 'bleh' coming over me.

Maybe it's something specific to the rogue class... but is it me or does T5 seems like a sidegrade (So much hit loss, much worse set bonus) then T4?

And that's not the only thing...

The boots from Moroes are better then the boot from Lurker.

The Tsunami Talisman from Leo isn't as good as DST or Rumolo's because of the internal CD.

And of course, the weapons aren't as good as my S2 weapons and even less so then the S3 weapons when I get them.

Etc.

Sure, there's a handful of small upgrade here and there (Warp Spring Coil, Vest of the Sea Brigand, Belt of Thousand Death (Which seems worse then the ZA Bear boss's belt...), Shoulderpads of the Stranger) - but even so, it's nothing major.

Maybe nostalgia is just clouding my memory, but I recall drooling on T2 back when I was in T1... now I'm looking at T5 and wondering if it's truly worth it.

Yet somehow, I doubt that means my gear is 'Hyjal' ready...

Enter the non-rogue theorycrafter... I don't know gear incredibly well, but would at least like to think I can compare pieces fairly well.

There's always a few pieces that generally aren't worth getting, but the rogue T5 set is pretty bad overall. That loss of hit really hurts. The best piece is the helm, purely for the meta socket, and even then the Season 3 one is really good. The rest of the T5 set is lackluster.

Beyond that, however, there's some great stuff. The belt off Vashj is the best until at least Sunwell if I'm not mistaken (expertise = win). The gloves off Al'ar and the shoulders from Hydorss, likewise, are great. Bloodsea Vest, the rings from Hydross and especially Kael, Tsunami Talisman (despite the internal cooldown), and the thrown weapon are all top-notch as well. That's almost half your gear, and there's other stuff that are potential upgrades as well, depending on what else you have (the neck and cloak from Kael, for example).

just got myself the nynjahs tabi boots, those are friggan bad ***. the new badge loot is all really nice and on par or better than SSC/TK loot. If you got all the badge items they would be fine for you till MH/BT. Not to mention not cost you any EP/DKP.

If you look around actually, the gear changes in general are incredible.

Pre-BC, what did you want to raid? Full tier sets. There was no option, they were the best.

Now, how many people do you actually see running around in full T4? Not a whole lot. Hell, the mage class T4 is a joke in most categories.

Now look at T5. Outside a couple pieces, no one again but a few select classes.

This goes on to T6, although once you get to that tier, you finally do start getting in the full set.

It's really wierd. I don't see Hyjal rogues in T5. I see them all in off pieces. Same to say for Mages, Shadow Priests, Hunters to an extent, **can't recall off top of my head**.

I guess it is good. You aren't pigeon-holed into that one piece. That will make you feel good, knowing there are other options.

The reverse side of that, is once you get those pieces, they aren't as special, since you have so many options of what to do, you aren't developing a sub-conscience attachment to said piece.

Well, at least we've established that I'm not crazy for thinking T5 is lackluster... my complaints by the way, don't extend to T6 - That set is awesome. Saddly, it's also way out of reach right now.

SSC and TK loot isn't that great. Sword from SSC is hot. The ring off Hydross is sexy. Chocker off Lurker is nice, then the T5 Helm and Legs are pretty good. That's about it. TK's got a nice trinket, good fist weapons, the best ranged weapon and a great mace. The bracers off Solarian are nice, but the badge ones are a lot better now.

There are some solid upgrades, but it's not like going from blues to epics.

i love the fact you dont need a bunch of 8/8 T1 rogues anymore, customizing your set = for the win

i dont like the 2 set req. thing, and i will make 1 hybrid set for pvp and pve when the time comes (yes i know... itll be lackluster, but i love being different, and me having a pvp set thats half raid-good gear is refreshing in my eyes)

but i love having the options... i had 0/5 assassination and 0/5 wastewalker when i started kara, and i had good stats! it was tremendous! fel leather? primalstrike? tons of non set epix and non set blues worth having? for the fresh 70->pre-TK rogue its a lot of choice, and i think thats a great thing wow needs more of

when rogues have 2 arena sets, one crit based one ap-based, o man will i drool... mix mix mix and match! in the games i play i love collecting items, and i love (even more) having diff gear on then the other rogues i see runnin around

if it was all sidegrades... that would be amazing to me, i mean kara to ssc to tk should have some differences, but i would love 2 piece t4 and 2 piece t6 and knowing i didnt sac a TON of stats to do that

WTB more 2-piece set bonuses, for more areas of gear :D

I feel the same way. In FF XI I had a relatively rare (when I got it) item called the Shikaree Aketon. It wasn't really better than the other options, but it had a very distinctive look. Most Ranger gear was green and yellow (looked pretty dumb), but my Aketon was pure black. I got messages all day long asking where I got it.

/Agreed!! When I look at the arena gear I think to myself....ugh so much less atk power and hit /wrists!! Of course it gets compensated for other things but still. I find mixing and matching is probably the best way to keep your stats up w/o losing a whole lot of one particular stat (atk power). I'll be spamming heroics for a few badge items and bg's for the Vindicator belt, maybe the boots, ring and definitely the AP trinket.

I'll be lucky if my rogue sees a piece of T4, let alone a piece of T6 :(
