People give me a lot of sh*t for asking to need on healing gear, i tell them as a hybrid it would be nice to have healing gear if i am asked to off/heal raids and such. but they always have the same answer "no resto no heal gear" so should i just respec resto and get my healing gear then go back to ele?
The only mail wearing healer in the game IS Shaman right? I mean, Paladin can wear mail, but they go for plate/healing gear. Druids go for leather/healing. Priests... cloth/healing.
A resto shaman should get mail/healing gear over a enhancement or elemental shaman. They will always be healing, whereas the other specs may be asked to do so only occasionally. The only Mail wearers are what? Shaman and Hunter? (Warrior and Paladin, but they aim for plate generally) Obviously Hunter wouldn't be interested in resto shaman oriented gear. This leaves Shaman lotting mail/healing gear.
If it's BoP, I generally have no problem with anyone needing something they may only use occasionally. If it's BoE, I get a little more annoyed. That generally feels like they are using it as an excuse to lot the item and then sell it. It's amazing how some people will lot 3 leg items in one run and demand that they need them all.
So in short, you (and everyone) should give priority to people who are spec'd for the gear, then if they don't need, to people who COULD use it situationally, then finally to everyone just to sell/DE/whatever.
