Confessions of a one-time hunter....Follow

#1 Nov 27 2007 at 7:05 AM Rating: Decent
So, I recently renewed my subscription to WoW. I had stopped playing a few months ago after I got my hunter to level 70. I tend to be a "soloer" and I didn't do a whole lot of instances. I got kinda bored so I tried a warlock. At first, it was fun but after a while, I found that 'locks are a lot like hunters (send pet, shoot arrows...uh...I mean wand...blah, blah). Even with the casting aspect of the class, it still lost its charm. I was considering letting the subscription lapse but I didn't want to quit with the new expansion coming out (eventually...). What to do?

I rolled a PALLY!

I tried a warrior when I first started WoW and got him up to level 45. I got a little frustrated with the class mainly because of the constant repairs and cost involved. I assumed that a Pally would be the same way. Boy was I wrong!

I got to level 11 with my Dwarf Pally in just a few hours! AND, I haven't died ONCE!! It's awesome! I realize what my Pally guild-mates were going on about
(Bursade....if you are reading this, I don't want a "I told you so")!

Also, and I realize that this sounds schmalzty, but I like being able to heal folks or give them a buff. Makes me feel nice! (:

I also like the visceral feel of wading into the fight. With a hunter, you are constantly trying to avoid direct combat. And, with the warrior, even though you're in the middle of the fray, you are constantly drinking pots and it takes some time to recover after a battle.

All in all, I'm very happy with the change. I think I'm gonna go with Retribution. From what I have learned, it's probably the best line to solo with. I hope to do more instances later on and then I'll re-spec to Holy or Protection.

Anyway, I just wanted to say I'm happy to be a Pally and I'll keep checking this forum for tips and advise! May the Light be with you!! (I know! corny!)

Warriors have been buffed quite a bit and are probably different from how you remember them being when you last played one, but Paladin is something completely different.

I think ret is easier to level with in the early going. Prot starts to shine in the mid-30s to 40s area, and imo Holy begins to shine once you reach Outland where you can do a Shockadin build if you like. Paladins are a very fun class to play, but be aware that much of the playerbase really seems to dislike the Paladin class or the people who play it.

OMG, did I get mentioned in a thread I hadn't posted in? Maybe it's my lack of sleep ;)

Anyways, glad that you are liking the Paladin so far and hope you will continue to enjoy it. Generally speaking yes, Ret is the best way to solo. Particularly now with the leveling changes emphasis has been placed more on questing rather than grinding to level, so the Prot AOE grind starting at level 35 really isn't as appealing as it used to be. Though it indeed is still a viable way to level, I'd have say that quest "grinding" would be a much faster way to go, and for that Ret will be the better way to go.

You stated you wish to do more instances later on. You don't "have" to respec Holy or Prot later on, just be aware of the stigma around DPSadins. Another bit of advice would be to play around will all aspects of the Paladin class and get a feel for its ins and outs. It is capable of so much, I hope you get as much enjoyment out of the Paladin as I have :)

Maul rocks my socks off!

Anyway, yeah welcome aboard. Lots of new people joining up on the forums and getting into the Paladin groove. Ret is pretty fun, prot is pretty fun too. One lets you kill single targets fairly quickly (really quickly up until the 50s), the other lets you kill several targets at once.

You want a trip though, get to 40 or maybe a little higher, respec prot just to check it out. Wade into a group of 4 or 5 melee mobs and watch as you come out relatively unscathed, with no fancy running involved.

I am in more or less the same boat. I have a 70 Hunter and still love the little *******. But I wanted an alt and thought I would try the job I always wanted to play, Rogue. I love the fact that they rely on speed, agility and evasion. What I generally look for in RPG/MMORPG.

But I just thought I would try out a Pally for poops and giggles. Man I'm lovin' it. More so than Rogue, I would have never thought that. I'm rolling Prot. with my friends as a Preist, and its just too much fun for one game.

Woot!!! Welcome to the family!

Everything I've learned about pallys was either trial and error or these guys on the forms. The best thing is to first read the faq's. So many posts I've seen... and the first responce is "Read the faq".

Pallys rock. Started prot, and haven't changed for a min. I've played with ret (Saruth, Bolderfist relm) and have had holy pallys in my group. I love seeing what my brothern can do!

The Rep that a Pally carries with it seems to be game wide (pally's can't tank, heal, ect)... though I love the reaction from those who I've had the pleasure to run instances with (Pally tanks rock!!!!). Slowly we will convert them all!!! Muhahahahahah!

Again, welcome to the family, May the Light be with you!! ;-)
