An option for Holy Paladins once they get into Outlands is to start a shockadin build. This does require a good amount of mana, and is more focused on spell damage. Outlands has a good amount of Plate spell damage gear, so stacking that up, using a shield and one-hander, and using SoR, JoR and Holy Shock to kill can be another viable option.

Shockadins are like plate wearing spell casters as they tend to focus damage through Seal/Judgement of Righteousness and Holy Shock. Their gear will be loaded with spell damage, spell crit, intellect, and Stamina.

The classic Shockadin has a build that is deep holy (typically 40) and then 21 in Ret to get nice things like improved judgment, improved SotC and Sanctity Aura. The approach is to cast and judge SotC, then cast SoR and alternate between Holy Shock and judging SoR. It becomes much more viable in Outland, as the above quotes state, because in Outland you get access to a LOT of +spelldamage and +int plate. It's a fairly mana intensive playstyle, of course, but if you use BoW and have a good amount of +mp5 gear (which again you should get quite a bit of in Outland), you can go for a bit without having to drink. Basically the Shockadin is a nice setup for people who are going to be mostly healing in groups, but who want some solo-ability for the rest of the leveling in the 60-70 range, or for farming thereafter.

A variant on the classic Shockadin puts points in prot rather than ret, sacrificing a bit of damage potential for a tougher defensive posture. Some people prefer this for PvP because of its increased toughness and the availabilty of improved concentration aura.

It's definitely a very viable spec with Outland gear and its +spelldmg. People might be surprised at the DPS output of a well-geared Shockadin, to be honest.

thanks for the insight, now the first response said a 51/10 build which would be better? 41/20 or 51/10, also if u go 41/20 what talents would u recommend, and finally would sanctity aura really be best? or could i fill out holy and just use concentration aura for uninterrupted heals

When I made the shockadin build I was making it how I would have made it, feel free to move some stuff around. However, as a shockadin, you should expect to still be able to heal in instances, so grabbing the 41 holy talent instead of sanctity aura might be a better investment.

If you plan on PvE i would take the 41 talent, if you plan on PvP i think you can ignore that 41 talent. Or you could of course try it without (as in save that one talent point), run around a day or two with 40/something and decide if you need the 41 talent.

Please let us know what you think of the shockadin build.

If you're not going to drop 41 points in holy, might as well just go 40/0/21 so you can get Sanc aura. Redoubt + Shield Spec + Toughness is not going to save you in a PvP environment and they are unnecessary in a PvE envirionment.

Ok! If I use the 40/0/21 tree, do I have to use a sword and a shield too or a 2-Hander?
#10 Nov 28 2007 at 12:43 PM Rating: Decent
It would be best if you used a sword and shield, since you can get more spelldamage from that than with a 2-hander. If you want to use a 2-hander, you would be better served by going ret.

The build I went with is this one..

Its the Holy/Prot specific one...gives you reckoning so I tend to use a slow 2h while solo'ing then 1h/shield while raiding and pvp. Just need to get myself a good 1h still have a crap one from ramparts.

Why is that link in a Shockadin thread? And why are you using a 2H with Reckoning and not SoCommand?
