Healadin going OOMFollow

You guys aren't wrong about Holy Light being more time efficient and thus necessary when doing Heroics where bosses can hit the MT for 2-3k. However, that is a completely different situation from a lv 60 pally trying to heal normal difficulty instances. Since his problem is mainly mana efficiency, FoL is the way to go.

I do spam FoL unless someones health goes too low (i.e. around 40-50%). Then, I break out HL.

The biggest issue I had was when DPS pulls aggro, and their health drops REALLY fast. So I have to use HL to get them back up before they die. I usually end up spamming HL for a bit until they loose aggro or the mob dies. By that time, the tank has lost a bunch of health, so I have to give the tank a HL to get them back up. Big nasty cycle....results in too many HL....resulting in OOM.

To Manon - I'll try using the non-plate healing gear. I don't know why I've avoided non-plate... Thinking about it, I just sold a good piece of mail healing gear....DOH!!!!

I look at your armory entry and you really lack +healing gear. You can start by replacing your main hand, wrist, and boots with green healing gear, which shouldn't cost too much. Try to get up to +300 healing at your level. With a decent tank, you should be fine. If you have to heal the squishies alot, you may run oom quite often, simply they take more damage. I like to remind the mage that he's not a tank by bubbling him when he goes to pull ;)

Yeah, but it seems that there is not much +healing plate gear from lvl 40-60. That is where I went wrong - I only went for plate. And that will be corrected immediately.

Thanks again to everyone for the advice.

And I love the idea of bubbling the mage....lol

Honestly until I was solidly into outlands I didn't concern myself with the armor value of the items, just the stats of the healing gear. I had been ret and so I snagged up every piece of healing gear I could get my hands no no matter if it was plate, leather, or even cloth.

I don't see how that discourages the mage from pulling, he can still pull with his spells if you bubble him and he will not be considered on the threat table until the bubble breaks.

@the OP, if you are having problems because the dps are pulling aggro, then slap them and tell them to stop pulling aggro or get a better tank. If that doesn't work just "forget" to heal them occasionally, then follow up with

"Oh I'm sorry that you died, if only there was a way for you to NOT pull aggro off the tank you might have lived..."

BoP only stops you from making physical attacks, how n00bish of me. Still, they often get the idea and it gets their attention at the least.

I think the whole FoL vs. HL thing really hinges on playstyle and situation. The first couple of times I healed instances (I think SM was my first) I overused HL, and had mana issues. Not really surprising when you're in your 30's, especially if you have talent points spread across the trees and not concentrated in the Holy tree. As I moved up and learned from experience, watching others, and reading various fora, I became more of a FoL spammer. This was especially helpful when my mana pool was still fairly low, it helped me save mana for when I really needed it. Now, with a much greater mana pool, and much better healing gear, I mix it up a lot more, depending on the situation. If FoL spamming works, I'll go that route, but if it doesn't, at least I'm finding that my mana lasts longer due to my gear.

QFT. Some people love to hammer the big heals in order to top the healing charts as often as they can. During my guild's "learning curve" with Lady Vaj, we had one pally consistently go oom before the end of the first phase and people were blowing innervates on him. Each time he was the #1 guy on the charts, but it ate into our efficiency pretty hard. What worked for him on the shorter fights became a serious limitation for an endurance race.

Other pallies in the guild (me included) have adopted the style of hammering FoLs while saving the big heals for emergency situations. Like you pointed out, gear helps a lot and certainly end-game plate can bump those FoLs to some impressive numbers. Combined with the right spread of talent points our mana efficiency really shines in those longer fights. That's not to say throwing the big overheals out there is wrong, but the smart pally knows when to go full throttle and when the hold back. Many times it just takes a little experimenting to see where that line in the sand is for your character.
