Shadowform and Bonus DamageFollow

#1 Nov 25 2007 at 3:52 PM Rating: Decent
This issue was not really covered in the WoW Wikipedia, so I'd like to ask if anyone can clear something.
Shadowform and Darkness add a total of 25% to shadow spells and effects. However, does bonus damage (such as granted by items) gain that percentage of damage, or is bonus damage applied after the new damage has been calculated?
If I pretend damage calculation was exact, and I had 100 +damage, and a spell that hit for 100 Shadow Damage, then would my final damage be 250 or 225?

i do not know the answer to your question.. but i want to point out something... spells get a certain percent of your spelldmg. how much exctly it depends on the spell.. but generally its the following formula:

(castime of spell)/3.5 = percentage

in other words if you have 100 spell dmg your mind blast will get 42 spellmg in addition to its normal dmg.

hope it made it clear

Thanks, but in my example, I was pretending that spells got all the spell damage, so that the answer to my question was clear lol.

First, Shadowform and Darkness add a total of 26.5% (1.15 x 1.10) to shadow spells and effects. These sorts of effects, including shadow weaving and misery are multiplicative.

Secondly, to answer your question, bonus damage is applied BEFORE Shadowform, Darkness or any other of those sort of effects. In this way, these + %bonus damage talents are really quite a bit better than one perceives when first reading the tooltip, because they scale with gear.

So if damage calculation was exact, and you had +100 damage and a spell that hit for 100 Shadow Damage, and you had Shadowform and Darkness, then the spell would hit for 253 damage.

Thank you very much. That answers my question perfectly.
Their respective tool tips should probably be corrected, as well.

Well, actually the tooltips are adjusted, at least for darkness. (Not sure about for shadowform)

There's a little addon you can get called DrDamage. (Direct Damage) It's an addition to Ace2, although you don't need Ace2.

Basically, on the spell, it shows the exact damage that your spells are going to do, after all modifiers.

Here's a link.
