Given what Curse of Shadows/Elements do, am I correct in my assertion that if only one person benefits from the spell it is not worth casting unless they're doing upward of 1500 DPS? I ask because I got into it with the ONLY non-arcane mage in my raid last night while we were doing A'lar. He's putting up 900-1000 DPS as Frost (a ******* feat, don't get me wrong), but demanding elements. The Elements lock, of course, was putting up Doom, as it provided him with about a 140 DPS increase (in theory). Thoughts? Theory? I'm just bouncing ideas off the wall here.

Having only ever used CoA, CoS or CoD, I can't help. Only now am I learning to kite using CoEx. CoT seems awful and never used CoE. But I'm learning in BGs all the time as I farm for HP to get a full Dreadweaver set.

I had a nice moment today on Grulloc though. How good is Amp Curse, CoD!!

If only it worked on players...

I used to CoE my mage while he was whining about me ODing him.
Since he started to OD me I never put up anything but CoS.

Hm I might reconsider it soon I get some decent crit on my new shiny destro :p

It's a PvP tool and a raid spell, normally. I've used it in instances but it's rarely useful. ANYTHING that has a mana bar with the exception of Hunters, really, should have CoT on. Top rank is 60% added onto the casting time and that's just amazing.

I'm only up to mid-Kara, so I'm not as experienced as many other posters here, but I'll throw in my thoughts.

I tend to not use either anti-resist curse for just one person, unless it's a shadow priest. They already have all their +shadow damage, but then another 13%, and a good chance for +20% more? They love me.

And when there's two of them in the healer group, the whole raid loves me.

A couple fire mages gets CoE; an extra lock, a shadow priest, or some arcane mages gets CoS. If it's just me, I finally get to use amplify curse. That ability is so underused, outside of fights like Curator, where I can do 25k damage if I time Doom right.

Just have to agree with Loki. If you're fighting a caster that can have CoT on it, that's either a straight out 60% damage reduction, or a +60% chance that the the spell will be interrupted completely. We made it through an entire Spell Shade pull with 0 damage because of my CoT on all of them.

well as i understood you are on CoS duty and it would only benefit you and one other player. if that is the case i would cast it no matter what since you´ll have alot less partial resist on you shadow-spells as well. it really hurst the CoD bad if you haven´t got CoS up.

Depending on the raid makeup in most situations, I'd say give him Elements. It spreads the aggro around (which may or may not matter depending upon what fight you're doing) and will give some minor benefits elsewhere like Immolate, Flame Shock/Searing Totem and Fireblast. If the overall loss is 40 DPS (1000 DPS * .1 = 100 DPS vs. 140 DPS) without considering side benefits then just toss him the curse.

For Al'ar specifically, forget it. Casters are out of commission long enough (between him flying between platforms in P1, to the Meteors in P2) that you'll get a larger DPS boost out of having Doom ticking the entire time than you will out of CoElements even if you spend the entire time on the boss... which you can't and won't. If you use casters on the spawns in P2 then it's even more lopsided in favor of CoDoom.

I'm working off CoT in BGs, especially on priests. Just doesn't seem to last long enough to make it worth using over CoA. I'm either wrong, doing something wrong....or right. Which is it?

If we only have one mage in a raid there's no chance he'll get a CoE.
Of course, our mages suck so we're thinking of not using CoE when we have two of them either ^^

you're right to assume that it's not worth putting elements up for 1 caster unless they push out an insanely high dps. tell him to go ***** himself and respec arcane like the rest of the pros ^^ lol
