39 mage twinkFollow

#1 Nov 23 2007 at 10:52 PM Rating: Decent
So I've decided I'm gonna make my 39 twink a mage, and I think I have a good spec worked out. I went frost, but I'm looking for the best spec to allow me to kill rogues.

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents.html?0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000505323310200010230000

So... any tips?

take out Winter's chill + Ice Floes and get shatter.

I changed it to this: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents.html?0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000505322210205012000000 one of my favorite thing to do was to jump down into a group of enemies, frost nova, then cone of cold. It lead to some nice crits + a good slow on all of them.

Anobix has got the right idea. As soon as I hit 39 I will be doing that (possibly some time this week)...

And what about fire?

If you can find enough +dmg and +crit which, albeit, will be tough at that level, I've heard great things about full arcane. Just throwing that into the mix.

The only reason I picked frost is because I think it has the best capability of beating rogues. If there's another spec that will let me beat them easier, I'd gladly take it.

What about going heavy fire and getting blazing speed? That is a 10% chance of gaining 50% speed and removing movement imparing effects when hit with a melee or ranged attack. Rogues swing a bunch, so I'm sure it would proc a lot. Fire can also reduce them to ashes pretty quickly. With talents you can get +10% crit on your scorch and fireblast too (and 40% more dmg, etc etc etc).

Perhaps something like this: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=oZVgGzfzcR

Does blast wave share a cooldown with frost nova?

They do not share cooldowns, which is nice. The problem with blazing speed, is that after those 10 swings (assuming it takes that long) you will most likely be dead.

:)

I'm not suggesting to melee the rogue, just that this ability might aid in the kiting (coupled with frost nova, blast wave and cone of cold). If they do close, you might be able to escape with this procing.

Forgive my ignorance, but how is frost better for rogues at 39 than fire? Don't the ignites from crits plus the dot from fireballs keep them from vanishing? I imagine them just disappearing between frostbolts otherwise.

As long as rogues are in combat, they cannot restealth, unless they use vanish, which is on a cooldown. Frost also slows the rogue, frostbite freezes him in place. You have a lot more control with frost in PvP than you do with fire. True, the fire dot will keep him unstealthed. Generally, once a rogue is unstealthed, they want to kill you and stab you, rather than restealth. If you haven't seen some good videos with mages vs rogues, check out Evertas' page.
