How are you supposed to PvP as affliction? I'm a 46 Warlock and I've been doing BGs since around level 20. What I do in AB is play offense for the most part and kind of let the better armored classes be distractions while I dot everyone up. I usually save IHoT or Death Coil for when I myself am getting attacked but I'll spam fear on whoever is attacking one of my allies. For dots I do Corr. CoA and Siphon Life, because they are instants.
In WSG, I'm kind of bad. I'll run out and try to hide behind a rock or somthing and dot people when they run by but I can't handle more than 1 person at a time.

In both these BGs I don't get very high in the ranks, usually I'm in the bottom 5. I'm not gonna respec or get a new set of gear just yet, but any tips for BGs would be nice.

Basically, you got it right. Hide behind the main group and dot whatever you can, Searing Pain is the next most useful spell in my opinion. In WSG, I ususally stick on defense, try to HoT when a large group comes after the flag, DC someone if they didn't get hit by it, then CoEx anyone who manages to get the flag and DoT them up. Sometimes I'll go on offense, and just try to fear people off the flag runner while DoTing what I can.

I am a 49 lock and it is rare that I don't lead in total damage for either BG. I have about 140 +magic damage and maybe 25 +shadow damage. Hit points around 2600 or so. Dot x 3 stand on the fringe. If you engage more than 1, tag then dot x 3 while backing up then tag the next and repeat. I take offense far more often as I can make everyones life easier by cutting all enemies to 50% life. We are great at supporting flag runners in Gulch and stopping opposing flag runners in the midfield. AV you should be even better as the battles are more confusing and you can tag many enemies at once.

I also think you get a big boost to one for your dot's at 48. You are 46 and you probably get resisted more than I. I think it will get better in 2 levels. I was never near the bottom at 46 though.

You must be doing something terribly wrong if you are in the bottom 5 for damage as an affliction lock. You should be able to get top 5-7 if you sat out half of the game. Try getting some +shadow gear. There is a LOT for your level bracket, and most of it is as simple as finding a mid level tailor to make it.
