Enchant Gloves - ThreatFollow

#1 Nov 23 2007 at 2:04 PM Rating: Good
Worth getting? I saw some people talking about in trade last night and made some quips, but I was all joke, no serious, as I started thinking about it and it makes perfect sense to get the enchant. I mean, I can hold threat. But dps has to kinda hold back a little. They wouldn't have to hold back as much with this enchant.

So, I guess what would make it worthwhile or not depends on what enchants I wouldn't be getting and just how much TPS it adds.

2% if i remember right so you would get 200 threat for every 1k threat you already have. doesnt seen that much to me really almost think str to gloves would be better or agi. i'm really not too sure. but seeing how i've yet to see it mentioned in fourms or have anyone ask for it or ever see it talked about in chat channels in game. i'm guessing it's not as good.

2% of 1000 is 20.

Consider that this applies across the board. 15 str/agi is not better. 15 str = 2.3 dps (with prot spec), which is decent. The agi is nice, if your lack avoidance. even +8 sta to gloves is good (leatherworking), and is what I use on one of my tanking sets.

Those stats don't apply to inherent threat from abilities, while 2% threat does.

Ok. 2.3 dps on applies to.. devastate damage (half, 1.9 extra damage) heroic strike and white dps.

With crit aside;

with 840 ap (reasonable but not outrageous for tanking sets.) your white damage will be 147.5 dps, with kings defender. 2% * 147.5 = 2.95 extra TPS (translate as a bigger increase to threat than 15 str (2.3 dps/tps) for white damage).

White damage would be what i consider the weakest link for str to TPS gain, the rest of the abilities that are for tanking have inherent threat, which is multiplied by the 2% as well.

Str is definitely worse.

Here's the contendors:

Vindicator's Armor Kit - +8 Defense rating (already got plenty of DR)
Enchant Gloves Assault - +26 AP (good for dps, but not so good for prot warrior tanking)
Knothide Armor Kit - +8 stam
Enchant Gloves Superior Agility - +15 agi
Enchant Gloves Major Strength - +15 str

Out of those, Strength is out of the question. +Threat will definitely get you more TPS than the AP from Str and +15 str barely gets you any block.

Agility is in the running. You get crit, dodge, and armor. All three are useful.

Knothide Armor Kit... well, I'd rather get Agi than +8 stam, so I don't even really consider this one.

So it's down to +2% threat vs +15 agi. I think one of the reasons you didn't see much mention of the threat enchant before is because before patch 2.2, it was only available as a drop from the Twin Emperors in Ahn'Qiraj and needed 4x Nexus Crystal, 6x Large Brilliant Shard, and 8x Larval Acid, and those aren't as easily obtainable these days (outside of the shards) as Outland mats.

From most comments I've read today, the threat enchant is very useful, as it increases threat gained from all abilities. So, for instance, a Thunder Clap will get 2% extra threat on all mobs. With this enchant and Defiance, you would have 17% extra threat on every attack.

I think I'm gonna try it out.

15 agi = 30 armor, ~0.5% crit, ~0.5% dodge.

Which is ~0.5% increased TPS (except debuff and noncritting abilities) and a decent avoidance increase. I'd take agi if I felt my gear was lacking avoidance.

2% threat is simply 2% threat.

I HIGHLY recommend 2% threat over other glove enchants, if you want to have an enchant based around TPS... The other choices are for mitigation/avoidance, not DPS/TPS.

Yeah, I was listing +Agi as an avoidance enchant, not as TPS. I feel like I have enough avoidance for my tanking needs right now, so as I said, I'm gonna try and get the threat enchant done.

Theres also the new Glove Reinforcement leatherworking patch. +240 armor to gloves. I don't know how useful it would be, but it is an option you guys left out.

Eh... yes and no. Looking at base threat, it's actually Base * 1.3 * 1.15 * 1.02 = 152.49% more threat. Threat is multiplicative.

The other way to look at it as it's 2% more threat than you're currently producing, which is usually the better way to do it (and it's why claims that "threat reduction doesn't stack" are bogus, but that's another issue). Without the enchant you get 149.5% more threat, with it you get 152.49%. 152.49 / 149.5 = 1.02.

The same, incidentally, applies to Subtlety to Cloak and Berserker (or Battle) Stance/Imp. Berserker Stance/BoSalvation/Tranquil Air. While if you look at base threat you're getting smaller and smaller returns with each stacking effect, you're actually getting exactly the listed % change - going from 80% threat (non-Imp. Zerker) to 61.54% threat (+BoSalv) means you can do 30% more 'threat' and still be at exactly the same place you were before.
