Attempting to Maximize Frost DamageFollow

#1 Nov 23 2007 at 3:57 AM Rating: Decent
Ah, Alterac Valley Weekend is here. I plan on living in it. Now, little bit of info.

Right now I'm an arcane/frost mage with Shadow's Embrace. I'm trying my hardest to figure out the right combo of talents to get to get the best possible damage bonus, and I am stuck.

Usual stuff:

GEAR -
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Bladefist&n=Khalima

TALENTS -
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Bladefist&n=Khalima

Any help is appreciated.

A couple things that I noticed:

you do realize that you do not need to match all of the socket colors, right?

I would have went 40/0/21 as arcane/frost to get IceBlock > Slow. If you had more damage I would recommend going full frost, but I don't think that that is true.

I can give you a few pointers on your gear's enchants and talents
Not much but will help you out a bit

ie take 1 of the following enchants for your cloak:
Enchant Cloak - Major Resistance = +7 resistance to all magic
Enchant Cloak - Spell Penetration = +20 spell penetration
Enchant Cloak - Major Armor

For your chest:
Enchant Chest - Exceptional Stats = +6 to all stats
Enchant Chest - Major Resilience = +15 resillience
Enchant Chest - Exceptional Mana = +150 mana
Enchant Chest - Exceptional health = +150 health

For your boots:
Enchant Boots - Boar's Speed = slightly increase run speed + 9STA
Enchant Boots - Fortitude = +12 STA
Heavy Knothide Armor Kit = +10 STA

This is for the future but get revered with the Sha'tar and get
Glyph of Power = +22spell dmg and +14 spell hit rating

Also get this enchant for both of your rings:
Enchant Ring - Spellpower: adds +12 spell damage on each ring
Enchant Ring - Stats to get +4 to all stats for each ring.

You can also get an upgrade of the enchant on your pants, it's not much but all these little things tend to build up and at the end you'll see a significant improvement. Keep in mind that these are pretty expensive

As you are also trying to maximize you frost damage, try to get more points in frost. For example you can read in the thread "The Greatest Mage Post Ever" what good frost builds are. I myself have more frost but like the author on that post says there are a thousand different builds
Quote of that post:
44 Frost - PvP Frost or "Baby Jesus is my name."

4/5 Improved Frostbolt
3/3 Elemental Precision
5/5 Ice Shards
3/3 Frostbite
2/2 Improved Frost Nova
3/3 Permafrost
3/3 Piercing Ice
1/1 Cold Snap
2/2 Arctic Reach
5/5 Shatter
1/1 Ice Block
3/3 Improved Cone of Cold
2/2 Ice Floes
1/1 Ice Barrier
5/5 Arctic Winds
1/1 Summon Water Elemental

The PvP spec that is all the rave. I use this, love it. The pet makes for some very nasty bursting, pretty much every pvp toy that frost can give is in this spec. Most serious arena players are rolling with this build, the control and survivability are top notch. Anything less would be uncivilized.

End Quote

I think this will help you out a lot, ...

the ring enchants are for enchanters only (as far as I know).

They are, and I don't have the cash right now to switch over to enchanting.

I did read that, I have it printed out sitting in a binder.

The Arcane/Frost mix there does seem to be the best overall damage one. And while I do realize that I don't *HAVE* to match them, at the time the boots and shoulders were made my guild was raiding Kara, and I wanted to get as much +spell hit as I could. Once I get a little more money, I might take a look at some more gems.

I was the 40/0/21 arcane frost build for awhile mostly for raids while I got a few more epic pieces. All I can say is that for dueling, arcane frost is horrible. For BGs, its ok at best. You will die a lot, but you can get some nice big fat crits here and there. I respecced into deep frost a few weeks ago and the dps difference is much much higher at deep frost, and pvp is much more enjoyable because you wont get killed in 2 hits by every other class. The damage I deal now is basically that the crits hit for like 400 less, and I dont dont have arcane power, but I have a pet which makes up for that by a bunch. Just as a reference I have 970 frost damage at the moment, but had something like 1040 when I was arcane frost.
