PvP Meta Gem choicesFollow

Hello all,

I decided to buy my PvP gems earlier than season 3's arrival, so that I don't lose all my savings just on the gems.

So, I think this'll be easy, all I need is 3 red gems 1 yellow and 1 meta. I am thinking to go pure with the red and yellow, getting AP and crit.

However, the meta gem slot is a confusing one.

I have 3 possibilities;

There is the sexy [wowitem=25896]Powerful earthstorm diamond[/wowitem],

The complicated [wowitem=25899]Brutal earthstorm diamond[/wowitem],

and the inspiring [wowitem=25895]Enigmatic skyfire diamond[/wowitem].

I will most likely speccing an AR/Prep build similar to this, but not sure yet...

Any comments on all aspects (all the gems and talents) will be greatly appreciated.

I guess I will buy my gems during the weekend, makes them a little cheaper hopefully...

At your stage in PVP gear, I would do Powerful.

Then for gems get 8ap/6stm for red's and 4resil/6stm for yellows.

That is, if you are 100% gemming for PVP.

Your build is very similar to mine, and so far it's working really good.

As for your question...

[wowitem=25896]Powerful earthstorm diamond[/wowitem] is the way to go imo, especially since it stacks with Nerve of Steel giving you a rather chunky 15% stun resist and 18 STA is a pretty massive chunk of hp as well.

[wowitem=25899]Brutal earthstorm diamond[/wowitem] is a cruel joke. The +3dmg to weapon really doesn't amount to much dps wise (As this gem isn't even a good dps choice - [wowitem=32410]Thundering Skyfire Diamond[/wowitem] and [wowitem=32409]Relentless Earthstorm Diamond[/wowitem] are better from that point of view) and the stun is a 1 second stun with a 1% proc rate. In other word, it doesn't work often and when it does, it doesn't last long. If you're mace spec, you'll hardly notice the extra stuns.

[wowitem=25895]Enigmatic skyfire diamond[/wowitem] is a good runner up, but imo, it's a better setup with Mutilate - since it stacks with Fleet Footed and Mutilate is a lot more crit dependant then AR/Prep. Do note that pvp gear usually is pretty stacked on crit too, so it's not like you'll be hurting for that extra 12 crit rating.

And for what it's worth, Skyfire diamond are usually more expensive then Earthstorm, narrowing the choice even more.

Once you reach over 10k HP (without counting gems), I'd highly suggest to load up on +16ATK for your red sockets and getting the 3 PVP gems (20atk, 10 crit, 10atk/5crit) as well. Use 4resi/6sta for your remaining yellow sockets.

Aside from getting 4resi/6sta to replace my 4crit/6sta gems (in neck and bracers) and replacing my 10crit by the 12crit BoE JC yellow (in shoulders), I'm mostly going to stick with the same gem pattern as I have right now for S3.

Survability is important, but we still got to deal damage.

So with that PeD and 2/2 Nerves, being an Orc, i would have a 30% chance to resist stuns? Or do they add that up in some ridiculous wow way to were its only like a 5% chance ;-).

Actually did anyone consider [wowitem=32409]Relentless Earthstorm Diamond[/wowitem]? 12 AGI is very good (since added dodge chance too) & 3% crit damage increased help to counter resilience, I'm planning to get S3 helm and still wondering between [wowitem=32409]Relentless Earthstorm Diamond[/wowitem] and [wowitem=25896]Powerful earthstorm diamond[/wowitem], any suggestion?

My armory

Thanks!

I would honestly rather have 18stm and 5stun resist over 12agi and some crit boost.

So I took the advice I could get...or maybe not?

For my meta gem int he head I am getting a [wowitem=25896]Powerful earthstorm diamond[/wowitem],

For my red gems I have gotten [wowitem=24031]bright living ruby[/wowitem]'s,

For my yellow sockets I have gotten [wowitem=24048]Smooth dawnstone[/wowitem]'s,

I have also bought a [wowitem=33782]steady talasite[/wowitem] just incase, but I am thinking my res/sta is (going to be) enough, and should be focusing on damage more atm.

[wowitem=28657]Fool's bane[/wowitem] dropped for me this week in kara, I didn't let the other rogue or warrior roll on it, I just took it. It is going to save me 18k honor tomorrow when purchasing the s1 gear. I am tihnking of socketing it with a [wowitem=24048]Smooth dawnstone[/wowitem] atm. Heck I think I will do that as soon as I post this.

Thoughts and flames? I still need to buy my leg armor mats actually...and other enchant mats, the joys.

If you aren't above 350 Resil (to lazy to look) and aren't over 10k health, socket 4resil/6stm in yellow.

ATM, I am 360 resil and 9.5k ish health, so I am OK on both counts.

Normally it isn't me who dies first anyway, it is the healer.

I have a priest healer for my arena teams, and well, you know who you target when you see a stealther and a priest in arena...

*EDIT* Link to my armory.

Get mroe health. 8ap/6stam is far better then 16ap then. You need 10k+ unbuffed before you even think about budgeting in dps gems.

Huh, I'm actually a big fan of the Brutal earthstorm diamond. While the stun is pretty much crap, it's saved our 2v2 at least 5 times when I was out of CC to interrupt that crucial heal or finishing spell. The 3 weapon damage, while only mediocre, is just icing on the cake.
