So nobody uses 0/40/21?Follow

I checked a few hundred posts and didn't see anything on this unless it's deep in another topic. I had always skipped over this spec either going with an Affliction or Destro spec for raids. However, since switching to it I do awesome damage.

Couple downsides that I can tell are it's mobility. Since I'm spamming SB's it's hard to be mobile. Also, I tend to go out of mana pretty fast but I must admit I tend to drain life a little too late. Last, it's not as efficient as afflic when farming but you can get by.

Anyway, I have noticed that my DPS has gone way up. What's nice about it is if I'm doing a heroic and I'm on CC duty I get a 20% increase in damage with the succy out. If I have my Imp out during a raid I get a nice 20% threat reduction which is also very nice.

I've read a lot about it and have heard positives and negatives but wanted to hear what you guys thought since I monitor these boards more than any other. Thanks!

Yeah, that's kinda why I brought it up here. This spec seems much better due to the fact that you are pretty much always using a pet of some sort when running instances or doing raids. With the 0/21/40 you need to sac a pet to get optimal damage. Now I have limited experience with raids. I've only completed the chess event in Kara but this seems like a better spec due to the fact that when doing raids/instances I always have a pet out. Not saying it is definitely better but seems like it would be.

Also, I heard that my spec isn't as good with better gear. I'm trying to figure out if my gear is too good for this spec or just right.

OK, a lot of people won't know me...this is my first post on theLock forums, though my main is a lock and I read here almost daily.

I'm open to correction/criticism too, now that the disclaimers are out of the way:

I believe the reason that nobody relies on 0/40/21 is because the damage scales better with other specs.

Full affliction sees better co-efficients on Corruption, as well as Amp. Curse and a new DoT, Destruction enhances shadowbolts and all crits beyond their tooltips.

Most of the Demonology tree is based around survivability and enhancing demons you just don't use in raids, while it has been shown to increase DPS dramatically with poorly geared Locks, each gear upgrade you get makes it less of a pheasible choice than either of the other 2 trees.

as a demolock, which i have been for ages (read 2 days) going for 0/40/21
means going for little increased dmg with shadowbolts, but sacrificing huge amounts of dmg coming from the felguard itself.

Made a ******* long post but hit the reset button when i was gonna post omfg! :S

I use 0/40/21 and it a decent spec for dmg, but since it is hard to keep your succy alive you will end up sacrifing it most times. Only use it cause i gotta tank leo, and i would advice you to take 0/21/40.

Demon tree only gives +5%crit after DS.

Destro tree gives +3%crit, increased dmg from spelldmg gear, increased dmg on immolate, and 10% to fire dmg too.

I guess it just depends on who you play with. I always have a pet out. If I don't I'm asked to pull it out. (thats what she said) 0/40/21 gives me nice bonuses with a pet.

0/40/21 isn't much of a damage spec; you'd be better off with dropping Ruin at that point and getting a Felguard in terms of damage output, but people tend to drastically overstate the power of Ruin when they're making talent specs. ***** around with the Warlock spreadsheet for a bit; it's a definite boost but if you have good pet control it's definitely not going to outweigh the Felguard's damage (assuming he can actually attack without dying, of course).

If you're going to go deeper than 21 in Demo and aren't doing it for PvP purposes, you're usually better off just going all the way up the tree. Most guilds need a Demo Warlock for utility (i.e. tanking) but you may as well do some decent damage even with that utility spec.
