Giving up on the way of the WarriorFollow

#1 Nov 22 2007 at 4:07 PM Rating: Good
I have decided to call my Warrior quits.

Lately playing my warrior has been a bore as I can't get into many raids as i don't have great gear, and to get the great gear is going to take longer than what it will take to get my rogue to 70 and geared for raids.

And tanking bores me further, and from what i've read tanking in high end instances is crap because the high end tanking gear decreases rage gain.

I will probably end up leveling another warrior sometime, but my 70 is going to start collecting dust.

If this is true... you need to switch classes for sure!

"from what i've read tanking in high end instances is crap because the high end tanking gear decreases rage gain"

This is NOT a reason to switch classes.

If you are in an instance where you are getting insufficient rage because the mobs don't hurt you enough, then remove some armor so you get hit more! There are hassles to each class, this is just one that plagues warriors.

If warrior is no longer fun for you then of course the proper thing to do is to switch to a class you would enjoy more. And of course there is always the chance that after a month or so off you'll decide to resurrect your warrior (though maybe with a guild that is not as advanced as the one you are in atm)>
Sometimes we just need a break to recharge our batteries.

Have fun whatever decision you make!

I'll probably wait till WotLK to even attempt playing my warrior again, for now im probably going to go rogue.

You might want to try pvp, as its more fun to a lot of warriors then tanking. If that doesnt make you happy, go hit up the rogue your planning on making.

God if that's not the truth... Ever since I got Heroic min. stats with my dodge and parry at 30%ish I swear I've been Taunting more mobs off overzealous DPS. Bosses I do fine since they hit harder, and it's a longer fight. But I swear if I don't have rage to shield bash the next CC'd mob. I'm not even in Epics yet, but all blues.

I felt compelled to post because I'm in a similar predicament.
I just hit 68 a few nights ago, and I find that more and more I MUST tank. I am an MS spec, and have hardly ever tanked but now to get into a group, I HAVE to tank.

What's more annoying is, is when another Warrior joins our group who is lower level and he also is an arms or fury spec. Kind of like, where was this opportunity when I was 59-64?

So, I've been slowly moving away from my Warrior due to the fact that my best friend, who got me started on WoW, said, "You don't like tanking now, you won't like 70."

In this situation, I don't remove my armor, I just equip pieces from my dps set. More damage = more rage + more threat and I clearly don't need the extra tank gear. Win / win situation in my book.

I don't believe in "I started tanking in Outlands". This scares me.

A warrior must be able to tank, a warrior must be able to DPS - this is "full"warrior. One capable of taking any duty that is needed (but healing :P).

Of course some prefer tanking and some prefer DPSing. But prefer!= able to or good at.

If you dont start tanking instances at low levels you will probably not like it and it means that you will probably not be good at it.
Going as tank into any TBC instances you are expected to know what you are doing.
Now there are a lot of new warriors who rolled this class because they think warrior is easy and powerfull.
They just powerlevel to lvl 64-67 and start looking for gear and they are suprised that somebody wants them to tank and to be good at it....
They fail at start as they must to and start hating tanking. And they quit warrior class. I must say I dont miss them.

If you choose to be a warrior you must get expirience with tanking. Start with Deadmines and tank every instance in Azeroth. If you do you will find that tanking is fun as well.
If you choose to be a warrior you must get expirience with DPS. DPS solo and in group with a tank, learn to eatch your aggro. DPS ing is fun if you know what you are doing. If you don't people will laugh at you (omg fury warrior outdpsed by a tank !!!!).

Tanking is not easy but is fun, DPSing well is not easy (contrary to common opinion DPSing as warrior requires some expirience and knowladge) but its fun. If you can do both you can call yourself a warrior. Otherwise you are a fake in my eyes sorry.
Its even better if you will get expirience in third role - PvP. If you do you are a Master Warrior and all either hate you or respect and love you. And some will see you and say "I want to be like him" and they powerlevel to 64-67 and start looking for gear......

I basically started tanking in Outlands.
I am learning fast, and I can see my skill improve steadily with each and every instance run.

I did not start tanking until after I got to level 70, and am tanking with guildies for the Hellfire instances. We are moving up to Zangarmarsh, and our first run through Underbog was a success. When we blow through the Zangarmarsh instances as easy as we now do Hellfire instances we will move up... to Aucindon I guess?

And when I have the magic 490 defense and 1300 AC and 1300 HP unbuffed we'll start thinking about Heroics :)

The normal versions of the Hellfire instances are forgiving enough that these instances make good training areas.

if you have enough avoidance so that tanking single mobs in regular instances doesn't give you enough rage (which is usually the case), then insist on tanking multiple mobs (imp tclap ftw), switch out a few pieces for dps gear and use a faster/higher dps mainhand. i use my dps offhand for my tanking mainhand when tanking regular instances and have just enough rage to keep shield slam/tclap/revenge on cd.

in heroics, you need all that avoidance since the mobs hit like runaway trucks. the bog lords in heroic UB can hit for 4k and drop you quick before you know what hit you.

gear-wise, you can grind/buy aldor rep to mainhand the vindicator's brand, and there are plenty of easily obtainable, fast offhands if you want to dw fury, or take your pick of any 2h from the loot list. epic feet are easily available from doing ogrila dailies. there are many world drop BoE's and BS gear readily available for purchase from the AH.

sounds to me like you aren't trying hard enough...
