Of course, I was wrong.

By saying "americans" in response to the question implies that they are in their right minds. My apologies for the error.

Two things:

First, the candles actually do work. They are actually hollow cones and the burning does two things, it softens and loosens the earwax and the hot air rising actually helps pull the ear wax out through the hollow candle.

Second, if you think that people get rated up for mindless nonsense on this forum, you should look at the rogue forums. An asshat was karma camped on there until he was knocked out of scholar status (no small feat given his number of posts) and was quickly reinstated by his equally asshatted elitist friends.

You should feel lucky that she was rated because of pictures, I've seen alot more rating for alot less contribution.

Your name including Ludicrous fits this quite well, as they do not soften and pull out wax. Hot air is at the top of the candle, you know, the lit part, not the bottom. If anything, a lit hollow candle in your ear will do nothing but deposit more wax into your ear. If you don't beleive me, wikipedia it and look at some onf the reference sites. Tests have been done, the gunk that it looks like is coming out of your ear is just impurities in the candle wax. Because the mind is a powerful thing, and you have convinced yourself that they work, you "feel better" after using them. Hot air rising is not enough to move wax, even softened, which since the heat isn't "in" your ear it isn't. In order to pull wax from your ear, you'd have to create enough negative pressure(or air moving our, or vacuum, or whatever term you'd like), to burst your ear drum.

A much better way too soften and remove wax from your ear is hydrogen peroxide. If you actually have such a build up that it is causing you problems, pour about a cap full in your ear and sit there for a few minutes. Hydrogen Peroxide actually breaks down the wax and allows it to flow out.

The flame and resultant hot air would create a minor updraft through the hollow center. Probably wouldn't be enough to do squat to the ear wax. During my college days in one of my engineering classes we used an open flame and a hollow tube to pick up a small object. The Same principle would apply I would think.

Most disturbing though is you are looking at that picture and are interested in the candle rather than the pretty blonde holding said candle. Priorities man, priorities.

You do not want to know what I had to do to get promoted. I wish it was as easy as pictures, I'm still sore.

It was worth it though, my name is green.

I have a gf that plays WoW, so I really don't care about looking at pics of pretty girls I'll probably never meet that play WoW. Big deal, when I want to look at pretty chicks I'll look at my g/f, around the office, walking down the street, call my friends, at clubs etc....

Sure, but then we would be unable to hit each other with them... at least not without injuries. Also wearing a 40 kg gothic field armor would not allow several nice ladies to join into the fray, which I would severly miss

XD
