A few shadow priest questionsFollow

#1 Nov 21 2007 at 11:33 PM Rating: Default
as a shadow priest would it be good to take mental agility? because i seem to have quite a few instant cast spells. and shadow word pain is actually quite expensive at the moment for me and is an instant cast.

Here is my character at the moment:

Here is the build i hope to have when i hit 70:

Im not looking for any builds that will help me leveling.. im just looking to get good at the instancing build that way when i get to 70 i wont suck at being a shadow priest

If you all have any tips or if you feel i should reallocate points lemme know.

My main goals are to be an effective source of damage aswell as a battery in 5 mans, 5 man heroics, karazahn and zul aman.

So far your build looks pretty good. I'd definitely get inner focus + meditation once you get a few levels.

As for your mental agility question, In my opinion, 10% off instants while nice, is not really worth 5 points. You'd be better off spending those points elsewhere.

Also once you get inner focus I'd strongly recommend you macro it to activate on use of shadow word: pain. Although it's only every 3 minutes, It really does add up when you look at the long run.

I also toyed with a 20/0/41 build except I had 5/5 UW, 2/2 Imp. Fort, and 3/3 PW:S While It was pretty good for farming, as I said, those 5 points would be better off spent on something like shadow power. Unless of course you don't have a heavy mb/swD rotation but you should if you wan't to be at the top of your game :)

Yeah, agree with Electricwizard on this one. I tried the 20/0/41 build you're using for a bit, its really not bad, especially if you're in early raid content (as you stated). Once you get a bit further on you need the potential to do a bit more burst damage and 14/0/47 wins out for me.

Hmm ... you say you want to raid/instance, your better off dropping spirit tap and putting those points in blackout. spirit tap is great for solo, useless for raiding since you probably wont get the killing blow, and if you do you shouldnt need the mana increase as much. blackout is great for getting a couple of seconds to breathe in pvp and tight pve situations. likewise i would take improved psychic scream for PVP simply for the fact you can get silence, sure you will get a few more resists (or you can sac a few points elsewhere), but its essential for casters, i use it in pve and instances/raids a lot too to get that caster running at you or to interrupt their dmg.

also unbreakable will > wand specialisation, you shouldnt be wanding unless your grinding mobs and want to conserve mana. and yes it sucks that we have to use 5 points for the same dmg as mages get from 2 talent points (and again 5 talent points in resists that other classes can get with 2 or 3).

I'd prefer this build http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=bx0GkhxZZVGrzMtRhtVo over yours, of course its down to personal preference, i dont get spirit tap grinding, but i do get blackouts solo and party ...

also if your doing any pvp it might be worth putting 2 points in healing focus.
