100g Level 54 Enh - How to Spend?Follow

#1 Nov 21 2007 at 9:48 AM Rating: Decent
My Level 54 Enhancement Shaman has 100g and I'm trying to decide the best way to use it. I've resisted buying a mount as I didn't think it was worth it versus Ghost Wolf. Is that a fair assumption? I'm thinking an Epic mount would be great but that's going to take some time.

What should I do? Buy a mount now. Save it. Spend on weapons / armor?

I would say to buy the mount training, because you'll have to have that anyway to get epic mount training.
Don't spend it on weapons or armor, once you get to outlands the gear there will be incredibly better.

Boy, if you are level 54 and you don't even have your basic mount yet... you are in a world of financial hurt and you don't even know it yet.

You really should get a gathering profession...I took up mining and leveling it from 1-375 made me 1000 gold. (I know you aren't high enough to level it up that much, but you should be able to get to at least 300). Thorium sells pretty well on my server.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I've got 100g in "cash". That doesn't include what I've got in my ALT character and in the bank. My professions are Mining (233) and Jewelcrafting (104). I've been saving up / smelting most of my ore and I've got a bunch of stuff that I can't use for Jewelcrafting right now. So I know I need to go mining one day so I can bump up my skill there.

But in total I've got in (mainly) bars:

Iron 123
Gold 25
Bronze 202
Tin 42
Mithril 118
Indurium Ore 5

Jewels:

Black Pearl 2
Iridescent Pearl 2
Tigerseye 1
Star Ruby 1
Aquamarine 5
Citrine 3
Jade 7
Black Vitriol 1

I also have about 40 items I'm trying to sell in the AH of various worth plus some recipes, patterns, essence, etc.

I have no clue how much all this stuff is worth but I imagine it's another 100g easily.

So I should probably just go ahead and get the Level 40 mount now I presume. Makes sense. And I'm not finding a lot of things for sale in the AH that would make a huge difference for me right now.

Thanks for the initial feedback.

Here's a follow-up question. I can buy my Level 40 mount right now. Or . . . I can wait and buy the Level 60 mount although I doubt I'd have enough gold to buy the riding skill initially.

You NEED the level 40 mount training to be able to EVEN BUY the level 60 training, so why the hell not buy it right now and get a 20% speed increase when traveling?

Makes sense doesnt it?

The mount is worth the investment. Consider that a large portion of your leveling and questing time involves travel to and from the quest objectives. The amount of time saved in the long run is pretty surprising, even just from a 20% speed increase. Not to mention that you can avoid getting run down easily in unwanted PVP with other pre-60s.

But seriously, get the mount. Save up your money as you level, and DON'T buy gear. Once you hit level 58 and get a few quests in Outland complete, you'll be getting armor and weapons that make the stuff you're wearing look pathetic. With some good gathering and auctioning, you should be able to afford your epic mount in your early 60s (gold flows pretty quickly in Outland). Buy the epic mount and don't look back. Again, the quest rewards should keep your gear pretty up to date, and there's always instance runs (and dungeon mission rewards) that should keep you in good shape.

You will need your epic mount for leveling to 70. Unless you love getting chased down and ruthlessly slaughtered by bored 70s in Hellfire, or spending forever trekking around, it's easily worth the expense.

and if anyone hasnt noticed, lots of stuff in outlands can actually catch up with you on a 60% rare mount.

The only gear you should buy is weapons. but even then its iffy.

Seriously sell you bars, drop jewelcrafting and pick up skinning. I was rolling in 2000g before i even hit 60 and bought my mounting skills and my epic mounts. If this is your first character on this server, you should always go mining/skinning.

Don't listen to anyone else that tells you that you NEED to buy your mount. ghost wolf will get you by until you are in the upper 50s. Don't buy a mount until you can really afford it. I never bought mine because i was too busy leveling to bother to buy one. Since you're pushing your pennies right now, i'm guessing that you should probably hold off on buying a mount and work on leveling.

YES you have to buy the skill eventually but why buy something that will make you completely broke. Make some money first and then go nuts.

Conclusion of the post: Mining/skinning
