ShS at 50 - Thoughts? Flames?Follow

The title pretty much sums it up. I am leveling a rogue on a PvP server right now, currently specced for combat swords. That works very well, but I find my play style to be more sneaky than "in-your-face," if that works. With that in mind, I've been looking at the changes to the Subtlety tree.

My rogue is currently 41, so it will be a bit before I even reach 50 to respec. At any rate, what do you think of speccing ShS at 50 or 51?

Thanks for your time and input.

Bad idea. Subtlety doesn't have any of the good sustained DPS talents, so you'll lose a huge chunk of DPS by putting all your points there.

If you want fastest leveling, stay deep combat, even though it is a bore.

shadowstep in the 50-59 pvp bracket is nuts

otherwise... pass, unless you rather level for fun like i did (i was old shadowstep leveling 60-69)

I tried sub around that level, when ShS was a better grinding tool (shorter CD).

Didnt like it. I didnt have the gear to support it.

Deep combat works well obviously, but i was mutilate from 50-70. It was ******* awesome. Killed with no problem, got to see some big numbers, got to play with daggers (which is the most fun imo).

And mut does aweseom at world PvP since everybody's HP/res doesnt really skyrocket till 70 and geared.

Thanks for the pointers. I did not think about the DPS impact, I suppose I just assumed Sinister Calling and Deadliness would make up for it.

I am in no rush to get to 70. I already have a druid and shaman leveled on another server, so I am taking a bit of time with this one, just letting the exp come as I move along.

Anyway, I might try speccing Mutilate, but I don't know. I'll figure it out when I get there.

Thanks again.

I was Combat Swords til 50, then switched to Mutilate. I love it because it's fun to level (even though it's slower) and keeping a mob stunlocked for the entire battle is a blast). It's also fun in world PvP. The only people that give me a lot of trouble are the pally's. I do get REALLY frustrated trying to farm BG for Honor because I die...alot. Maybe it's b/c I really suck at BG PvP, maybe it's b/c I'm not using Maces.

The fun factor is there. But it will be harder and more painstaking than leveling as combat.

You will level slower, but possibly enjoy it more. So if you aren't worried about hitting 70 fast and just want to goof off, ShS would be a fun way to go about it.

Well atm my 67 rogue is ShS and yes it is prolly the worst leveling tree lol. I just love to poof behind them and do a huge ambush for 3k though (which i havnt achieved yet, but close) I think combat and mut is to lvl then at 70 ShS ftw

I leveled shadowstep for a long time. It sucked, and I kept at it. I was killing slow, but I kept at it. Eventually I got tired of it and switched to Mutilate, and started leveling about 50% faster (that is not an exaggeration).

If you feel like you're going to pull your hair out with a faster leveling spec, don't spec it. If you honestly have tons of fun leveling as shadowstep, go for it. If you're like me and you completely zone out while farming/grinding and speed is the only factor, go for the best spec you can.

Yeah, combat swords is boring, but welcome to grinding. Everything is boring. I prefer to spend the least amount of time possible grinding and farming, then have fun when I'm at the level cap. I guess the FF XI grind scarred me for life (takes about six months of steady play for the average player to hit the max level), and I'm most concerned with getting to endgame content fast.

I've got a 70 Rogue and 70 Mage, working on a Paladin now, and my system works for me. If you just want 70 fast, Combat is the way to go. If you want a change of pace, Mutilate is right up there with it, and is tons of fun to play. Ever crit somebody for 4,600 damage out of stealth (shortest arena ever)? You might as Mutilate.
