Thanks North!!! =)

To be honest, I am at once releived and saddened by the hunt.

I bought (to be on the safe side) a five-stack of haste potions, drums of battle, and brought my shaman friend.

The mobs are in the far North of Dustwallow and will summon the wolves repeatedly if left to their own devices. I let my friend grab aggro and take the heat, started changing aspects (to get the gem to proc) and had him pop bloodlust. I thought all was lost because my macro targeted a wolf that died shortly after with only 25 seconds on bloodlust... but by sheer luck I managed to get another clarity proc before bloodlust wore off and started my tame.

The entire process took about 1/2 an hour, which was decidedly less than I suspected it would take (no camping for three days to get Humar), but I got extraordinarily lucky.

There was a T6 geared night elf hunter there who was attempting the same thing, but I don't think he realized he couldn't do it alone. Ah, well. I wish him luck. The only crappy thing was that my friend (shaman) started attacking him; it's my view that another hunter going after such a noble cause should be left alone to his own devices as the hunt can require focus... but not everyone shares my mindset.

Anyway, if you guys have any questions let me know! I'm more than happy to help =)

I made a macro to target the wolf, chug a haste pot, cast berzerking, and start cast... I also made sure I was below 30% life to get max benefit from 'zerking.

As the boards say, dont' be alarmed if the wolf keels over as you finish; just rez pet and you're good to go!

OK I got one. Here's the idiot's guide.

You will need
1x Hunter (that's you!) equipped with the Mystical Skyfire Diamond
1x Shaman with Bloodlust/Heroism
1x Priest who can reliably MC a lvl 36

start off by having the priest MC the Tauren who spawns the wolves, then swap rank 1 aspects til you get the gem to proc. You have, of course informed your Shaman to watch for the proc graphic effect and to hit Bloodlust at that moment. Your Priest then pops the wolves. You instantly hit your tame macro* and job done, no luck needed, just good timing.

*tame macro:
/target grimtotem spirit guide
/cast tame beast

One thing I'm a little concerned with though is; I've gained my new wolf 2 whole levels without a single loyalty ding! I've never had a pet this far below me before so I was wondering if that's normal? Or are these things bugged?

Don't worry, he just takes a while. I just took mine to 45, and he's just dinged best friend. It takes time =)

Grats on your wolf, as well!

So there's no way to tame this without the gem, right? It'll die and disappear out of freeze traps?

Correct. It has between 7-8 seconds lifespan and is immune to all CC. It dies immediately afterwards.

Just got mine, and I couldn't be happier. Rasen's mini-guide a few posts above this one is spot on, but I'm leatherworking, so I added the drums. Just to be safe, I would use the drums and have the shammy pop bloodlust at the same time, right when the guy gets mind controlled. Then spam your aspects, praying to god you get the proc because bloodlust/heroism is on a 10 minute cooldown. The timing has to be absolutely impeccable...you basically have to have a macro, and spam the hell out of it until you start taming. It took us 4 tries, so a little over a half an hour. Cost a bit of money for the new gem, and it'll cost more to replace that crappy gem, but it's worth it.

The way I see it, if they have ghost saber as a tamable pet, why not this? It even walks differently from normal wolves - it has that ghost wolf walk that you'd be familiar with if you're a tauren and did the quest where you follow one in Mulgore. Come to think of it, there's one in Hellfire you follow as well...don't know where alliance would encounter them. I'm curious to see what it looks like when it runs. No training points for dash yet. I just hope the pet leveling increase for 2.3.2 is substantial, because I am not looking forward to leveling a level 30 pet. Stuff dies very slowly when I don't have a mini-tank to take a few hits.

Repeat of the age old advice for pet leveling:
Bring him to instances where your pet isn't more than a one target DoT. Just keep him next to you, and he will leech xp like hell. Leveled several pets that way, and all you lose in the instance is a little bit of DPS.

Confirming this wolf can be tameable.

1 priest to MC then trigger the pups,
1 shammy to trigger heroism,
1 drum of battle,

and a macro to target the doggies right away and tame.

Also, this wolf goes awsome the rift stalker gear.

forgive me for my ignorance but what does switch aspects until proc mean? Also how would the preist trigger or summon the pups?

You keep changing aspect until you get the effect from the metagem that halves the casting time on your next spell. It's triggered by casting spells, so switching between 2 level 1 aspects can trigger it. Then you have the Priest you're with cast Mind Control and force the Tauren to summon the wolf.

What I'm hoping is that Blizz realizes how much people like this wolf and gives it a 20 second life span, so that it can be tamed earlier.

I just got mine. ^^

For a troll, it's possible to tame with JUST Berserking and Meta (but its EXTREMELY close). The wolves died just as my tame finished, and it had a little heart pop up so I knew I had it. ^^

Makes all the ghost wolf sounds when engaging/etc. Awesome pet (even if its run is a bit spastic XD).

Congratulations on your new pet.

I also tamed one last night.

Thank you to all who gave the tips & macro advice, worked like a charm! :)

Took it with me on a Heroic Mech run and dinged 5 levels. So halfway there!!
