Ebon Netherscale Set - NOT for others?Follow

I realise this might seem obvious but does the "Binds when picked up", on: Ebon Netherscale Breastplate

(and its associated set items)
mean that it cannot be made for someone else?

I had been gathering materials, to get someone to make the set for me, but hadn't looked carefully.

Can that not happen?

---

I have looked at the pre-raid gear and, while there are several options, there are no weightings on various characteristics, thus no (theory-crafting style) item rankings.

There are lots of sites and threads, on various forums, that list viable items for each slot. I have not found one that ranks the items for each slot, in a consistent manner.

If I cannot have that set made, then how can I find the "best" pre-raid gear (Beast Master hunter)?

Thanks.

Nope, you have to be a Dragonscale LW to be able to make and use that set.

Also on a side note, it is good for BM and MM specced hunters but Sucks for SV :(

Ok.

Do you have any thoughts on the second half - where I can find rankings for each slot?

Rankings are hard to do, mostly because it is different per spec.
I wouldnt mind doing that, but i dont fancy calculating what every single piece gives you and comparing that.

I can't do it, as I have NO head for numbers, but can see how it could be done.

Take elitistjerks. Check out what I found on their forum, as an example: Enhancement Shaman

Specifically, look at "VIII.1 Itemization - Stat Weights".

What you then need to do is not rank every item, but work out an accurate way to rank stats and give them a points value. These are then applied to whatever item you might find and a user can then rank the item him/herself.

I had thought someone might have done it, but it seems that site - if it exists - has not yet been found.

Skribs has a Stats point calculating system. Find one of his posts and in his Signature it has a link called Stats or something with the word stats in it.

I will do that.

Sleuth work coming up.

Thanks.

Hmm.. Have you checked out the pre raid gear thread? Thats probably where i would start if i were you. On another note there is an addon called haep, that assigns point values to items, just like you want, the math has already been done, and you can adjust the weight of different stats for your spec.

Unless you are in a raiding Guild which is past Kara, there are no items which can compare to the Ebon Netherscale set for a BM Hunter. If you aren't completely tied to your current trades then reconsidering Skinning/LW is a very good option. You can always drop Skinning after you make the set, or even skip it entirely if you buy your mats off of the AH.

@ montaghar

I will check that add-on, but it still means I must find something first.

What would be nice would be to find a page on which someone has ranked the top 3 items per slot.

You could then see what you needed and plan a "campaign of/to gain".

@ Kompera

I have mining and skinning, so I could give up mining - but I've had that forever and it would feel like losing a limb.

Having said that, I am now in a fresh raiding guild and that's quite a change.

It would be nice to make things for myself, instead of wearing items "Made by Random Noob".

@ all

I reckon that - dropping mining for Leatherworking, to make that set (amongst other things) might be the path to take.

I have seen some reasonable Leatherworking guides, but can anyone recommend one / some - capable of taking me up to 375?

What stat does everyone seem to be gemming for? Agility?

The best gems would then seem to be:

"Red = Delicate Living Ruby (8 Agi)
Yellow = Glinting Noble Topaz (4 Agi/4 Hit) until hit cap or Smooth Dawnstone (8 Crit) after hit cap
Blue = Shifting Nightseye (4 Agi/6Sta)"

The issue here is that different gear is good for different specs and different play styles. If all you ever do is PvP, then the PvP Arena gear is fantastic. If you raid, then you'll find that more than a couple pieces of PvP Arena gear seriously crimps your mana style. If you're SV spec, you'll want to stack AGI. If you're BM or MM, you'll want a high base AP before you worry too much about Crit%. So there can be no single listing of 'top three' which is accurate or relevant for all Hunters.

If you want to see where the pack is at, try wowjutsu.com. That site can list the top items worn broken down by class and spec. As well as a pile of other very useful information. But remember that what's popular isn't always what's best.

I feel your pain, my friend. My Mage has had Mining/Engineering since he could learn them. But the Tailoring crafted items are so good that I've got to drop one of those, and it hurts.

I'd suggest using the links on the left side of this site, and also checking out the LW entries on WoWWiki.com. WoWWiki usually has links to additional resources at the bottom of their articles, and their Trade pages usually link several decent resources.

I don't know about 'everybody', but as a BM you're probably much better off stacking AP than AGI.

Those are good for gear you'll be replacing soon. For items like the Ebon Netherscale set you'll want blue quality or better gems. Bright Living Ruby (+16 AP) is quite nice. Hit cap can usually be reached through gear, freeing up your gems for AP.

this is a good guide. The rep required to get the drums have been changed though, so look at using them more. Also, read the "top hunters in wow" thread to figure out when to change from AP to AGI gems

It seems that this is an interesting exchange, though it's wondered far off the beaten track.

I am interested in gems, but they deserve a dedicated thread.

Check the Hunter forum for:

GEMS for sockets - ap / agi / crit / etc ???

Please feel free to post your gem thoughts there!

Just get used to the derails. Once a subject is done with, the thread is up for grabs for anyone who feels something else might be discussed. That's how we usually end up with excellent discussion threads with actual content.

"Get" used to them?

Unfortunately, I am - hence the specific thread.

It's not possible to look inside a thread and I know several folk who have been discussing the socketing / gem issue, so it was helpful to start another.

That one can live or die, as interest dictates.

Thanks, though.

You missed out on an excellent derailment. We talked for 3 pages about my hairy ***, no joke, it was quite interesting.
