New Mage With Questions...Follow

#1 Nov 18 2007 at 2:58 PM Rating: Decent
Hi everyone, I'm new to World of Warcraft and this forum... could you guys/girls look over my character and tell me if my build is ok if not what I need to change - I mainly quest with the occasional grind, and if I need to get new armor. Thanks.

Welcome to World of Warcraft and the mage class pretty much to sum it up getting gear will be dificult unless you have a high level friend who can run you through instances. On my server getting groups for low level instances takes a while I don't know about yours but if you have the high level friends ask them if they can run you through something. As for spec I would dump frost warding its nearly useless and pick up frostbite also pick up shatter when you get the chance its godly when combined with frostbite.

Welcome to world of warcraft, where people are always delighted to have a mage in their group...

Ok, so you solo and grind. Frost build is good survivability & fun AoE grinding, but I find a fire mage to an exciting way to quest or grind. My mage is level 52 atm, and I've stacked "fiery" gear (+fire dmg). I'm even wearing some greens from the low 30s, but it works REALLY WELL. When I turn on the crits, 2-shotting yellows mobs is not uncommon.... green mobs just don't stand a chance.

** I carry a 2nd set of int/stam gear for when I need to AoE mobs **

Quest rewards always have spirit on them, so they are often just garbage. Those quests are still worth doing, though, for the fabulous amount of XP. I like to pickup green items from the AH. The occasional instance will often yield a sweet blue item that you'll wear for many levels. Save for your mount from level 35-40.

Hey man welcome to the clan. You've made a great choice in my biased opinion. I've been playing wow since june and I've only rolled and played one character so far. I'm lvl 53 2/41/1 spec and going strong.

I would like to take this time to make a few suggestions.

1.) Download some good addons for mages(see anobix's signature)
2.) Determine your favorite playstyle PvE Solo or Group and spec accordingly
3.) Visit this forum every day, or as much as possible. I have learned more in this forum that has helped me along the way, then I can even mention.
4.) If you haven't already, read the greatest mage post ever.

Good luck to you!

Thank you all for your kind advice - I got Cartographer, Omen, Titan Panel, and another mod I don't remember. My playstyle will be PvE Solo mainly w/ groups for instances or hard group quests. I read the Greatest Mage post and am visiting this site nearly every day. I have learned a lot, especially with the help of the kind members here! ~ Got level 29! My guild ran me and another guild mate through Scarlet Monastary and I got some 39 hat Whitemanes Chapeau (sp?) and a lot of other cloth items and a Illusionary Rod!
