One of the things I was looking forward to in this patch was the change to Starshards. One of the main reasons I left my Priest was because the race seemed horrible compared to other races out there. Elune's Grace was a joke and Starshards was only good if you weren't Shadow spec'd.
Old Starshards was a channeled arcane spell which did decent damage over time, increasing the longer it ran, just like the Warlock's Curse of Agony. Unfortunately Shadow Priests got more out of Mind Flay than Starshards, making the spell utterly useless. If you had mana to cast Starshards you'd be better off casting Mind Flay.
New Starshards is an instant cast, mana free, damage over time spell with a 30-second cooldown. Wut teh fawk? Yes, you heard me. They removed the mana cost, then they removed the channeling part and finally they flattened out the damage making it deal full damage from first tick on.
Okay, okay, so what's the downside? The 30-second cooldown and the fact that it seems to have lost some of its power. But seriously, I can live with a free DoT every 30 seconds. Compared to the Undead racial, Devouring Plague, it's almost better. It doesn't return health, no, but it's FREE!
I'm now glad I picked a Night Elf Priest instead of a Human Priest. Just wish I'd picked a male instead of a female. I get hit on soooo much!
