What is the difference between these two??

I just hit Exalted with LC and can get the Shapeshifter's Signet. But i dont know if it will be worth it or not. That being said here are my current stats for each category--

Hit rating - 109 =6.91%
Expertise - 5 =1.25%

With the new ring my expertise would go to 10 =2.50%, but I will have to either take a loss on hit rating and a small loss on attack power or a large loss on attack power.

Just looking for a few tips. I want to wear the shiny armor and accessories as much as the next guy, but not if it will actually harm my performance.

According to WoWwiki, your hitrating in catform needs to be 142 (9% )to reach the cap

Now "Each point of expertise reduces the chance for your attacks to be dodged or parried by 0.25%." <-- also from wowwiki...

Personally I would go for the increased hitrating first...because if u cant hit it,their chances of dodge and parry are irrelevant anyway :)

Agobi, you're not talking about the right attack table. The attack table for a mob your level is:

5% chance to miss
5% chance to be dodged
5% chance to be parried (if applicable)
5% chance to be blocked (if applicable)
X% Crit (Your crit chance)
Whatever is left regular hit

Some mobs have shield block which increases their block chance, but in general that's what you look at. (For level 73 aka boss mobs, there's a 9% miss chance, and I'm guessing a 5.6% chance to be dodged/parried - although I could be wrong on the dodge/parry). Thus, +hit and expertise are virtually the same. The one thing is expertise has 1/2 the effect if the mob doesn't have parry.

my answer may have been a wee bit unclear methinks :)

What I meant to say was; even if the mobs chance to dodgy/parry your attack is 0,without capped hitrating you will still miss = much less dps.

Table would look something like this ,as I understand it:

capped expertise (if possible, don't know about that one..):

5% chance to miss (9% on a level 73 bossman)
0% chance to be dodged
0% chance to be parried (if applicable)
5% chance to be blocked (if applicable)
X% Crit (Your crit chance)
Whatever is left regular hit

capped hitrating:

0% chance to miss
5% chance to be dodged
5% chance to be parried (if applicable)
5% chance to be blocked (if applicable)
X% Crit (Your crit chance)
Whatever is left regular hit

Now,if I am wrong about this,I apologize, and offer myself up to be shamed and pointed at :D
'

Now,as to which of these scenarios would yield the highest dps is for some mathgenious to figure out, since that sort of thing aint my bag ,baby ;)

edit:

After reading my own reply,I realize that the two are infact more or less the same, since a dodged or parried attack does infact do about as much damage as a miss ....which is zero :D

/bow to the Skribs for showing me the error of my ways :)

It takes 15.6 Expertise to reduce Dodge (and Parry) by 1%, and 15.8 Hit Rating to reduce Miss by 1%. In terms of DPS they're virtually interchangeable, in terms of tanking Expertise wins by an enormous margin.
