I know in 25 mans you want to have 2 lock put up curse of shadows and elements, but I was wondering about 10 mans and even 5-mans. If you have 2 fire mages would the raid dps go up with CoE or should I stick to CoD. Should I only used amped CoD and when it's on cool down use CoS if there are 2 locks and a shadow priest?

I know it's not a clear awnser as it depends on gear, but I was just looking for a rough estimate.

If you are in a 5-man and DPS is 1 'lock and 2 mages, go with CoE
If you are in a 5-man and DPS is 2 'locks and a shadow priest, one of the warlocks should cast CoS and the other should go Doom.

remember that doom is only worth it if it can proc. in most situations in 5mans it won't get the chance so CoA would be the better choice. same in 10mans. bosses being the exception, though even some of them CoA > CoD depending on gear

Timing with CoD is everything. There's two ways of going about it (in 5 mans this is).

Cast it right off on the boss. It will then proc. BUT - at least for me - it will pull aggro from the tank and being as squishy as we are, tank will need to pull it back ASAP. If not, you're dead. I don't do this anymore.

Second option is to time the CoD to proc to kill. This I'm getting ok at. But it's very risky. More often than not, the boss is downed before it's run its timer and you wasted up to 59 seconds.

I'm actually starting to prefer being the CoS guy, throwing up Corr and spamming SBs. I'f I'm the only shadow there, CoA. I will occasionally try and time a CoD to kill - but I reckon I succeed only about 1/4 of the time.

hmmm... I don't use DoTs against trash mobs. they die too fast for most dots to have much effect. Siphon and Immolate seem to be exceptions, as long as the tank can keep aggro on multiples. Used properly, Shadowburn won't eat up a whole lot of shards, either. /Assist [Tanks name] as a macro helps keep you on target for those trash mobs.

If you don't have Malediction, CoReck is better than CoE if there are three melee (Hunters/Rogues/Enhancement Shaman/Feral Druids/Warriors/Retadins) to two CoE users. If you do, it's better if there are four combined melee to two CoE users.

The same applies to CoShadows, for that matter.

well seeing as he's talking about 5-10mans he's probably poorly geared and likely to be afliction. in which case using dots is worthwhile and the mobs will probably last a good 20-30 seconds.

I don't think i'm that badly geared. :P

The thought came from taking on Prince for the first time, me being the only shadow dealer and having 2 fire mages. I know it's pointless for trash or bosses that are gunna go down before a min. on them i put up CoE/CoS/CoReck as the group make-up demands. Just wondering for the longer fights where it will pop at least once as i suck at number crunching and theorycraft.

2 mages = CoE is more total dps than CoD
or
3 mages = CoE is more total dps than CoD

Mind you when he's got less than a min left CoE will go up either way.

easy. 2 mages = CoE over CoD. heck, if you use immolate in your rotation and there's 1mage then CoE > CoD.

you're not 'badly' geared... though definately the gear is only viable for afliction. so in which case all dots ftw regardless. and yeah, as above for CoD/CoE/CoS. also tbh if you have more melee than casters (which it sounds like you do) then CoRec > all others tbh.
