any new PvP builds for 2.3 ???Follow

#1 Nov 16 2007 at 1:22 PM Rating: Decent
Well I've decided that I am gonna dedicate myself this arena season to PvP. I have lots of experience as an ice mage and was thinking of just returning to that. But b4 I wanted to test the waters and see if you guys had any other builds that have been tested and seem to be doing well ?

thanks in advance,

Well, I tried looking at you in the armory, but that site is running really slow. How much spell damage do you have? I do battlegrounds and will be starting some arena along with raiding. I've opted to try arcane for threat reasons and because it rocks in PvP. I'm using a 49/12/0 build right now, but I don't advise that build unless you have +1K spell damage as arcane missiles won't hurt enough. It's superb against casters and slow allows you to kite rogues/warriors/hunters without cast time, and casters hate it (it's like an instant cast frostbolt that has a curse of tongues effect in addition). I have not tried it a lot in the arenas, but in BGs. As frost I'd be close to the top in HKs and damage... with this build I'm surprised if I'm not #1 or #2 in both. I know that sounds like a 'big-ego ZOMG, I'm moer awsomer then U, N00b!' statement, but it really isn't. I love doing PvP as arcane.

I have also PvPed as frost and used the 1/0/60 build for utility (17-18 points is too much to burn to get just imp CS).

Have fun!
Edit: Spelling..... ;-)

sorry ktanget - but those 16 points are worth it! it's your only way of shutting a druid down and can also be used effectively against other mages when poly is needed. (besides, clearcast, imp. arcane missiles aren't bad either)

Well, non-improved counterspell still will interrupt and lock out a school of spells, just not for quite as long. Same thing goes for pallys or priests... interrupt the heal and they cannot heal for a few seconds after that. Mages (well played) are more difficult as they can quickly change schools and rock your world...

All this is, of course, my opinion. Have fun!

I should have been more clear. Im looking for arena builds only i could care less about bg's. is 17/0/44 still the most valid arena build. but to answer your question in my raid gear i have about 900 spell damage (currently fire) i havent spec'd ice in forever so i have no idea what my spell damage will be at that point.

I actually believe there is room for disagreement there. There is a very nice writeup on elitistjerks that talks about the difference between 17/0/44 and 1/0/60 for arena. What schools get counterspelled and for how long, that kind of thing. I think the most valid question is... Is 15 points too much to burn on your way to improved counterspell? For the arena, there is not much that the first 15 points will buy you.

Depending on what bracket (and setup) you're playing, I'd still roll the cookie cutter 17/0/44 or 0/5/56 specs. Tbh, I'm thinking of respeccing 0/7/54 for some extra stuns in 5v5. You only really need the imp cs in mainly dps teams, for instance, I 2v2 with a rogue and sometimes a shadow priest. Anyway, go with 17/0/44, check out what you feel you want to add/change and do it. Nearly everyone's 17/0/44 spec is different :P.

And yay for title and 3 pieces of s3 gear on the first day :D.

I'm still going to be 17/0/44, the addition of icy veins is going to be awesome. You'll still need cold snap for 2x ice blocks in arena, and water elemental is so clutch for getting frostbolt->ice lance shatter crits from a distance, plus he pelts hard and generally gets ignored, causing alot of spell pushback on casters. Imp CS is great for a 4 second silence, I've burned plenty of resto druids with this spell, usually when they're getting close enough to death, silence, frostbolt, fireblast, AE, CoC if needed.
