I was just about to go out and buy the Everbloom Idol when I noticed this beauty:

Idol of Terror

For cat, a boost in DPS, crit, etc and for bear extra dodge, armor, and crit. It would also be more useful soloing since only 1-2 Shreds go off a fight.

This really got me thinking about the gear druids wear later on, in battles where you are only there tanking a mob until it dies, at which point you should run off and join up with DPS on another mob in cat form.

Are there any items that work spectacularly well for both DPS and tanking I should especially know about and be on the look out for? Some I can think of would be Badge of Tenacity (not great for dps, but extra agi is nice, and its armor is phenominal), Haramad's Bargain (nice raw AGI on it and its one of the best DPS), and the Barkchip Boots (but those lower your Def compared to clefthoof).

Also, which Idol would you go for first?

Usually in those cases you still want to be the best tank you can be. An example is Maulgar in Gruul's Lair. I was a warlock tank but I still wore full gear to make it easier on the healers. It's a good thing too because partway through Gruul the tank died and I had to pick him up. When tanking and dpsing later, you probably want to be a tank first.

As for the idols, what's your typical role? If cat, Everbloom. If Bear, Terror. They're both very strong for their role.

I'm planning on using the Everbloom when DPS'ing in raids as I am usually shredding. For tanking and PvP'ing i'll use the terror idol. PvP it's usually too hard to get behind the target consistantly, so terror will be a much better option.

I agree with the above also. If I am to be tanking in any way, then I am in my absolute best tanking gear. I would much rather convey the impression to the healers that I am a fantastic tank that doesn't take much damage than tank in my DPS gear and give them a bad impression of druid tanks :) (This is a side effect of being a raiding feral back in the days when resto was the only raiding spec).

I was under the impression you'd wear most of your tanking gear for these roles, but was curious if there were any outstanding items to mix in. I do plan on getting both idols eventually, just with 35 badges it might take a while.

Thanks for the input, I do think I'll grab the Idol of Terror first. One of our tanks left the guild from drama, so I'l be tanking even more now, and even if I do get called on to DPS the idol of terror offers something for it, whereas the everbloom offers nothing for tanking.

I have an outfitter set made just for that purpose. What I do is mix my feral peices like T4 and other agi/stam/armor with PvP peices. Resiliance is a cheap way to be uncritable if you don't care about maximum mitigation. The stat balance between feral PvE and PvP gear works out well so that you can perform well enough at both tanking and dps.

For my dps set, I got 3022 AP and 36.4% crit

In my offtank set, I got 2914 AP and 34.1% crit

For my tanking set, I got 29k armor and 29% dodge with 13800 HP

In my offtank set, 25k armor and 31.3% dodge with with 12800 HP

That's self buffed and with the proper weapon equipped (since you can change weapons in combat).

For mixing, especially from Tier 4 onwards a lot of your best tank gear is strong for cat as well. Most of the stuff you see that screams feral is good for both.

Just checking what I have on right now (pretty much the best pre-SSC) for shared stuff or close to it (I have some swaps for kitty for small upgrades):

Tier 4
Boots of Natural Grace (need to be a LW)
Tree-Mender's Belt
used to have Forestheart Bracers which are dual-use, upgraded them for both sets.

The new feral stuff from the heroic badge vendor is also pretty multi-spec, including:
Band of the Swift Paw -- great for tanking, I'm gonna get these once I figure out how to replace the resilience I lose from my Veteran's Dragonhide Bracers. Very nice for dps as well.
Footwraps of Wild Encroachment -- again great for tanking and very good for dps. Pure dps-wise I'd recommend the Nyn'jah's Tabi Boots as they have hit rating. For tanking Wild Encroachment are a must-have (at my level) if you can't make Natural Grace, if you can they're better but you lose some hit, which is in short supply on tank gear.
Waistguard of the Great Beast -- again a tanking belt with hit rating. For dps I believe this clocks in at #1, or close to it (compared to the Belt of Deep Shadow).
Vestments of Hibernation -- I don't have the Tier 4 chest yet. These are good tanking and dps, but again tanking I'd lose defense (using Heavy Clefthoof) and for dps I'm not sure how much to value 150 armor ignored.

The problem in recommending gear to go for for the purpose of multi-spec is it varies wildly depending on the level and the fight. It's really better to keep an eye out for the best for either spec, and if they overlap, all the better.
