Blind Focus MacroFollow

This morning I tested out the following macro:

/cast [target=focus, exists] [ ] Blind

Pros:
Blinds your focus without having to switch targets
Blinds your target if you haven't designated a focus

Cons:
Will try to blind your focus even if it's dead. You either have to /clearfocus or designate a new focus before it'll work on your target.

Is there a different wording for the macro that will take care of that single Con? Is there a workaround?

what if you switch it to [target=focus, aggressive]

Shouldnt that clear out the con?

Thanks PsiChi, I'll give that a test once I get home. One question though, does "aggressive" mean that they're in combat? If so, the problem that would create is that I wouldn't be able to blind focuses who werent in combat yet.

English terms are confusing me here and preventing me from understanding what you're talking about here. What difference do you make between target and focus?

What would seem useful to me is, let's say you're in 2v2 arena and your partner gets beaten on by badguy2 while you're fighting with badguy1 (I assume badguy1 is my "target"?), to be able to blind badguy2 without stopping to hit badguy1.

Is it what your macro does? If so, could you please explain how you do that? Thanks!

Sure Nostraaaa!

A Target and a Focus are two separate things. I'f you've ever seen a hunter shooting at one mob while his pet is fighting another, you'll understand. The hunter has designated one mob as a focus and sent his pet out after him. Meanwhile, the hunter designates another mob as a target, and starts shooting.

It's basically a way of keeping two enemies in your sights. One actively, and one passively. The macro I posted allows a rogue to blind a focus without having to tab or click away from the player that he has targeted.

To use it, you have to assign a key to "Focus Target," in your key bindings interface. Mine is "X." Then you target a player, hit x, and then you're free to switch to another target.

You can also bind a key to Target Focus ("Shift X") Which will put the focus back in your sights for some face smashing.

I like to use pitbull unit frames to arrange how myself, my target, and my focus are arranged onscreen.

Focus macros are ideal for 2v2 arena.

Thanks for the explanation Eon. I had indeed always overlooked this focus thing (I thought it was for sth else like the focus of the main tank and using assist functions). Indeed very useful for a rogue. For example, when entering arena, I'll focus the secondary target so that if while I'm beating on my target, the secondary target puts my priest in danger, I can blind him without switching targets. Brilliant, thanks!

I'm going to try and make a macro that looks like this tonight:
/cast Sap
/Focus Target

So that it'll automatically set the sapped chump as my focus without me hitting an extra key. I'll see if it works, as well as work out the wrinkle in the blind macro, and report back here.

there a macro that will allow you blind on mouse-over. That requires that you be looking at them, and be mousing over them. IMO, lamesauce.

I'm a tab spammer. The thought of mousing for a target makes me nasueated.

well think in arena, fightin some ****... rogue pops out on your druid

mouseover for focus, never even leave target... then hes victom to your focus blind

good when u might tab into a treant, or a WE, or a warlock pet, or what have you

Blind on mouseover sucks, because if you get mobs close to eachother you can't target the right one.

Focus is a good idea, but can get tedious since you have to set focus (and lose your target); is there any way to have one that does blind on mouse click instead (you know how when you select your LP skill your cursor highlights and you can click the lockbox...like that)?

Focus macros are pretty essential in arena though.

Really handy setting that up, so you can use your cc on a clutch heal interrupt.
