Pulling mobs w/ WarlockFollow

#1 Nov 15 2007 at 7:39 AM Rating: Decent
How do you guys do your pulling?

I'm level 33. I can pull okay with my Shadowbolt, but when I do, my VW never seems to draw the aggro from me. Any better way to pull then have my VW to get the aggro? Wand maybe?

Yep, SB hits too hard if you want your VW to take the aggro. Use CoA instead or whatever you prefer that has low damage, at least at the beginning. It takes 3 seconds before your dots do any damage, Immo excepted.

Pull with siphon Life. It has low damage, and keeps you healthy at the same time. At 33, your wand should be there only for the stats it provides.

I disagree. Allowing your VW to pull will give him the initial agro (and take that same initial agro off of you.)

VW is a slow runner? Yup... thats why people who rely on Demons like to get Felguard later... it's definatly not cuz he's a better tank. Even with VW's slow *** running around you can find ways to get a good amount of EXP taking on multiple targets at once durring your level range.

Yeah, when I was that level and using VW, I never pulled. Just send him in, let him get a taunt, Corr, CoA, let him get second taunt, Immo, Life Tap to Full mana, Drain Life until dead. If he pulled adds Immediatly start the same sequence on the 2nd on. If he didn't, send him after something else.

I usually charge up a SB, send VW in while still casting then place a CoA or something before the SB hits and the VW will intercept when the mob is about half way to me.

If you're needing to pull a mob away from a dangerous area, say away from a patrol's path, I usually hit 'em with Curse of Recklessness (or another non-damaging curse), then launch my minion when they're in the right place. Don't pull with your highest damage spell if you're not trying to hold onto aggro (which you would want if you're drain-tanking).

Try pulling with a curse, Siphon Life, or a wand. My VW never has issues pulling aggro off of me when I pull like that.

Pulling depends on the situation for me.
If there's 1-2 mobs around my level, i'll send VW in.
If there's more but i can easily pull one away, i'll use CoW.
That way I cause no threat due to no damage.
VW grabs aggro easily and i start my dots.

CoW causes threat, only it's extremely low and non-additive: I believe it's about 150-175 (omen), or about one tick of CoA (starting).

There is a difference between pulling and attacking, especially if you are a drain hunter. Pulling is taking the smallest possible number of mobs out of a group, in order to minimize adds. If you send your VW forward, you have a really good chance of maximizing those adds. So, what I do when I want to pull, is use a low damage spell, like siphon and send the VW forward when th mob is about 1/2 way to my position. That separates the mob from his buddies and keeps the adds away. However, you're right in saying that for the most part, you are just going to send the VW forwward - it's just that sometimes that isn't possible. You also have to give the VW a bit more time to ensure aggro on him when you are pulling.
