I've been spending alot of time in the BGs lately getting ready for season 3 to start and the one thing I notice is that if I get jumped by two Horde Rogues, I don't stand a chance in my healing gear. Thinking of respecing to something like this:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/paladin/talents.html?0550300250010000000005005113520321020212500000000000000000000000

Wouldn't the extra hit points and all of the reflective damage from holy shield give the poor pally a much better chance against those darn rogues? With all of the spell dam I get in my healing gear after 2.3, it seems to me that if I can keep holy shield up with BoS, the rogues would basically kill themselves by attacking me.

I know my usefulness as a healer would go down, but I don't always need to be on the top of the healing meter in AV. I'd settle for 2nd or 3rd place if I could keep myself alive longer.

I think the sacrifices you'd made in the Holy tree would prevent you from actually getting to the 2nd and 3rd places.

-No bonuses to spell crit chances.
-No Light's Grace when ya need to spam HL.
-No 35% of Int in +SpellDmg/Heal

Regardless, I think you're worrying too much about those Rogues. Half the damage you'll receive from players will be magic anyway so going Prot won't do you as much good as you seem to think.

Furthermore, as a healer, you should always stay near other party members, it's your purpose anyway. Let them deal with the Rogues and just worry about healing.

Not to mention, you're pretty much F'ed against two Rogues regardless of your spec unless you insanely outgear them. So yah, don't worry too much about it I'd say.

Iknow its a big scrafice in the healing tree and this particular build is extremely gear dependent. Once I puck up a couple of items I need once season 3 starts, if I take this spec, some important stats that I would have are

9500 hit points unbuffed
+1500 ish healing
9600 unbuffed mana
+500 spell dam.
with a decent chance to miss stuns and sheeping.

In my off tanking set, I'd have over 12k health and holy shield making me an aruguablly good tank than healer. True multitasking.

Loosing light's grace and the 35% +healing are the only downsides that I can see, but I'd be much harder to kill even in PVE

Your missing a +5% crit to healing spells, plus an additional +6% to Holy Light. I think thats way to much to give up.

That's a similar spec to mine. I actually have less in the Holy tree. I keep a good healing gearset and I am extremely often in the 1st or 2nd place for healing (as in the vast majority of the time). After you've specced to full Spritual Focus, being a good BG healer is less about spec and more about knowing what the hell you're doing.

That being said, you're generally not going to survive an encounter with two rogues no matter your spec unless you get some help.

Stick with a group (or a partner), use HoJ wisely, know when to bubble (and trinket), use your blessings at the right times, and drink during any lull in the battle. That's generally the key to BG healing success for any Paladin spec.

that's great if you can find a good group of people to actually defend you. last night i was dropping heals like mad only to be raped by horde over and over

edit:

actually i'm still just pissed about it - it's not always like that. you really do need the right spec to do the job right
