In all honesty: pathetic, sorry to say so.

I DO agree with the CONTENTS of the flaming, just not with the flaming itself. Yes there are a quadrillion and more posts in every forum (not only YOURS, Theo) that are like BubbaEl's. Maybe even more. Yes they are fantastizillion times as annoying.

Yet, it seems to be hard to just /ignore them it seems. Which is pathetic to say the least. At least in the paladin forum the flamers agreed with me that they should have /ignored it, but hey what can I say... you are Rogues after all.

Yes Theo, I will get out of YOUR forum, do not worry /smile. With your gift for being a brutal one-way-cynicist (spelling?) I do not even want to be a part of it. Good riddance for you! /bow deeply

(just start playing again, so you have a right to call it YOUR forum)

Happy hunting to the most fun class to play, hands down.

Doesn't matter whether I play or not, it's still my forum. No one else is as feared here as I am.

Nooble/Tyr may contribute more to the general knowledge base of the forum, but I don't know of anyone that's more of a known face on these forums, between my House avatar and my witty style of posting.

You know, for all the flames to read the FAQs, the best advice that the primary FAQ gives is this:

"Don't like my builds?
By all means experiment. If you want to see how the pros do it, look up the best raiding guilds in the armory, see how their rogues are specced. Chances are they're better than I am, and you can take their specs to the bank, so to speak."

Granted, the sample builds aren't bad, but they're not optimal, and everyone has their own opinions. The talents are in dire need of updating, etc. I don't care to bash anyone's hard work, but if you really want to flame someone to read a FAQ, perhaps make sure that FAQ offers timely information (and doesn't miss stuff like Relentless Strikes in a Combat Dagger build - hell, ANY build with 11+ points into Assassination).

Lightning reflexes vs. Imp Gouge: Imp gouge saved my bacon so many times while soloing (yay bandage!), and is useful for PvP restealthing, but in a raid situation, LR is a MUCH better option for filler points (definitely not as useless as some would lead you to believe).

To Theo:
I certainly wouldn't consider this to be *your* board (or anyone's board, for that matter) - that seems more like an attitude best left on the O-boards, but honestly, I don't care; that avatar gives you a certain license for arrogance. I do realize that you are sometimes trying to be helpful in your criticism, but it comes across as cocky and insolent much of the time (and thus ignored). I think your advice might be better received if delivered in a....less...arrogant manner. Your UI guide is probably your best work (not my cup of tea, but I can see how many people could enjoy it, and I applaud your efforts). In any event, just some friendly advice that might make your comments better received.

I guess at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that another rogue out there (like the OP) has (hopefully) learned to be a little less noob, and that is a very good thing.

Actually, no, just more vocal of late, in an apparently feeble attempt to counter these boards' continued decline in quality and increase in flaming/useless posts. It gets harder and harder to find those gems of a post that brought me here in the first place.

In any event, responses such as the one you made simply brand you as an ignorant and arrogant fool with an unjustified miasma of confidence that is neither worthy of "fear" nor respect. (Not that fear/respect mean much on an online forum, but meh). Also, try not to mistake people's weariness of pointless banter as a signal that you are either feared (lol) or correct in your assertions. ;)

I will, however, continue to admire your avatar.

BTW, you misused miasma. You can't have a "miasma of confidence".

In response to this, allow me to reiterate my previous point:

Quote:
2) Many, many, many hours worth of work and months of critique and commentary have gone into the various FAQ's. On the Rogue forum the stickies posted can take you from 1 - 70, gear you and walk you thru Kara successfully. Read the damn things.

I will highlight for those who are slower:

So, allow me to sum up:

If you are tired of the flames and useless posts - key phrase there being useless posts - then read the stickies and FAQs. Mystically, magically - almost eerily - many of the questions being asked in these useless posts and as a result being flamed by people will be answered.

Nope, I did not misuse it, although it appears you failed to understand its use. Let me help you out some....

-------
"The miasmatic theory of disease held that diseases such as cholera or the Black Death were caused by a miasma (Greek language: "pollution"), a noxious form of "bad air". In general, this concept has been supplanted by the more scientifically founded germ theory of disease. A representation of the cholera epidemic of the nineteenth century depicts the spread of the disease in the form of poisonous air.

Miasma is considered to be a poisonous vapor or mist that is filled with particles from decomposed matter (miasmata) that could cause illnesses and is identifiable by its nasty, foul smell (which, of course, came from the decomposed material)."

------
Here's a simpler definition for you, courtesy of Princeton (wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=miasma):

# S: (n) miasma, miasm (an unwholesome atmosphere) "the novel spun a miasma of death and decay"
# S: (n) miasma, miasm (unhealthy vapors rising from the ground or other sources) "the miasma of the marshes"; "a miasma of cigar smoke"

Apparently the use of miasma went over your head too. Confidence is not a plague, or something that's vile or disgusting. Cigar smoke, in this use, is; it's also a physical fog, which is what a miasma is.

Seriously, I'm smarter than you. Go back under your bridge/cave/rock.

And no, I haven't stopped getting laid. I have a day off today and I ran out of beer and I'm too lazy to walk to QFC/the pub.

Wow, you are seriously an idiot - go back to 9th grade. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Look at the definition again. With me here? Ok, good. Now...you can take this a couple ways according to the definitions I provided. Both definitions work if you have half a brain.

First, "an unwholesome atmosphere." An atmosphere could definitely be a physical cloud, such as smoke, no argument about that. What about a non-physical "cloud"? Here is one (of several) ways to define the term:

Atmosphere: A particular environment or surrounding influence; 'there was an atmosphere of excitement'

Amazing, I didn't realize that excitement was physical. Yet, you can have an atmosphere of excitement! Even the definition of miasma I gave you provides for a non-physical atmosphere. So, you're wrong there.

Secondly, can confidence be a plague? Sure, in that it can have unhealthy and unwanted effects (becoming blind to your own stupidity, for example) if you wanted to compare it to a physical plague. But wait! The use of the word plague isn't limited to physical diseases. It can also mean something simple, such as "an annoyance." The way you carry your airs of confidence and arrogance (sorta like an atmosphere too, huh?) around is certainly something that I perceive to be unwholesome, vile, disgusting, and annoying - much like the physical miasma of a fetid swamp, or a plague.

You should learn how to recognize and understand metaphors before you spout off your handle telling people how dumb they are. You should also go back and learn some reading comp. So, seriously, admit it. I am vastly more intelligent than you will ever be, since you are compelled to make the comparison. Now please take your own advice and go crawl back under your bridge or whatnot. Or come back for more, if you are a glutton for punishment - it makes little difference to me.

Edit: I don't mean to imply that ALL confidence is unhealthy or wrong. In fact, confidence in and of itself isn't a bad thing at all. How you utilize that confidence, by letting it hang around your head like a dark fog clouding your judgment, for example, can lead to confidence becoming a bad thing.

The stickies are great for a lot of things. The problem is that every so often, Blizz does something that changes the way a Class talent or skill works and makes parts of a static FAQ sticky obsolete. Unless the FAQ is getting timely updates, the number of questions it covers gets less and less.

I found that I learned a lot more about playing a Rogue from reading the various threads on this board (including the 'worst Rogue' contests) than I did from reading the FAQ stickies. When I went looking for information about the current talent for imp. sap, the sticky was (and still is) explaining the 'old' talent and not the change that was made months ago. It took me quite a lot of reading on many threads to figure out whether or not to keep the points in that talent when the info should have been updated in the sticky FAQ under the talent explanation section within days (or at least weeks) of the change.

The sticky is great and people should be told to go read it when they ask questions that are answered there but in order for people to actually find the answers there, the sticky needs to be kept up to date.

I've been meaning to get the Talent Build thread updated, but I'm in the middle of a particularly hectic round of midterms, followed by an equally busy Thanksgiving weekend. I promise that it will be updated to reflect current content by Christmas though (maybe).

Oh, my bad. Your writing style is what I was using back in my freshman year of college. You used miasma in the first sense of the word--your sentence structure and word choices were so poor that I couldn't tell.

I mean really, you couldn't come up with a second verb to use with miasma instead of a preposition? I mean, even using, "spewing," would have been better than, "with," in that case.

Instead of admitting you are wrong, you simply try to find another approach to attack from. Such pride. At least you finally managed to figure it out - if I had a cookie, I would reward you. Alas, you are stuck with leftover Halloween candy.

I had debated using the word "exuding" but I wasn't sure if you would be able to comprehend its meaning. "Spewing" is an excellent choice, though. I'll keep that in mind.

Anyways, I have a raid now. Tomorrow, tomorrow.

Well, I have to admit, out of all the scholars here, Theo is my favorite. I have never had one person make me literally laugh out loud so many time. I like the fact that he doesnt sugar coat things to make them more appealing to everyone and doesnt care at all about his 'almighty' karma rating.

People are too sensitive and sometimes(most of the time) need to hear the blunt truth. If you suck, he will tell you. If you are sort of off the right path he will tell you that you suck. Either way you know you are doing something wrong. Its no reason to get mad. Its just not a flowery way of doing things. I, personally, find myself rating up most things he writes. Maybe its just me that enjoys someone finally speaking their mind and not caring of others opinions.
