Whats A Decent DPS ?Follow

#1 Nov 14 2007 at 3:55 PM Rating: Default
Just wondering what a decent DPS is for a 70 Rogue. I have average gear (here's my Armory Link:

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Undermine&n=Nimbull

My DPS is averaging around 350 (on the average lvl 70 mob). That seems low to me, from the reading of various posts that I've been doing. What is a respectable DPS and what can I do to increase my DPS? (Im combat dagger spec)

Thanks!

Have a look at the FAQs on the site that deal with talent specs. There are some key changes you could make to your talent set up that would really help. Try going for a more "cookie cutter" build to get the feel of things. Whilst you probably chose the talents you had now on what you thought sounded good, there are some gaping holes in it.

If you give the cookie-cutter builds a spin you will get a better idea at the synergy of each talent and how to use it & then you can start personalising your own builds without losing much effectiveness.

Good insult.

You still do 350dps.

Thank you. As I dont play this game a ton (I have other parts of life that are important ie work, wife, child) I don't know all the ins and outs of the details of the game. I tried picking a build that suits my play style and so far it has done just that. I thank you for your comment and will look at playing with my build.

And it never ceases to amaze my how easily some people find it to be completely rude and ignorant to people on these forums at times. I guess it's easy to be that way when you are able to hide behind the anonymity of a computer screen. sigh......

I leveled from 1-40 using random builds, picking talents that I liked the sound of. But after popping onto these forums I did a little reading & some experimentation into what works with what, and when you understand it all you can still choose talents that you enjoy but without destroying your dps.

A lot of talents for example are "all or nothing". There isn't much point taking 2/5 in Seal fate when they can be placed in other more important talents. Blade-twisting is also pretty pointless... just generally.

Demea actually did you a favor. Whatever we say will now seem very kind, where normally it would be about as enjoyable as shutting your ***** in a door.

Lets start.

1.) Learn the difference between rogue and druid gear. Your helmet, gloves, belt, pants, boots fail here. Bad.

2.) A 22 +hit means you should go kill yourself. You should have at least 100 by 2 weeks after 70.

3.) Your trinkets and mainhand are acceptable.

4.) I am combat daggers. You are hybrid fail.
a.) 5/5 Lightning reflexes = 5/0 fail.
b.) You skip weapon expertise fro blade twisting. Fail.
c.) 1/3 Imp SnD. Fail.
d.) I have to stop, I can't do it anymore.

Offtopic: We need to build a thesarus into Alla for the word fail.

Edit: We really aren't being mean. We are giving good advice, but if you had read the stickies instead of posting an I"M IMPORTANT thread, you wouldn't have posted and when you did would have been welcomed. You asked, so there is hope for you yet. Btw, I leveled 1-70 combat fail, so I sympathize.

Wow, god dammit.
Kill yourself.

Yea I use FF. I was pointing out the irony of Arund wanting a thesaurus when he still needs a spelling dictionary.

I appreciate the comments....I certainly don't mind critisizm and actually expected some. Although I am lvl 70 it's literally taken me about 2 1/2 years to get there. I play VERY casually and usually solo. I am just starting to do some raids and stuff, so my knowledge of the game is admitedly minimal (compared to you guys). I appologize for posting an ignorant question but I really did have the best intentions. I've been doing some reading on these forums and it became clear to me that I've been doing something wrong, as 350 dps to me even seems low. Having said that, I only play for maybe an hour a week so it's difficult to stay "up" on all the lingo and intricacies that make this game enjoyable...

(lotsa spelling mistakes in there I'm sure )

Don't forget the good old peanut butter crotch dog triumvirate!

I got accused of the in /2 trade a while back.....

PS Thesaurus isn't a word worthy of being correctly spelled. If I can't pronounce it I don't have to spell it.

Looks likes you've made some adjustments based on feedback. Good deal.

Drop 1 point in Lethality, get Relentless Strikes. Drop 5 points in Lightning Reflexes, get Combat Potency. The combination of those 2 abilities will greatly increase your energy generation, and thus, your DPS. There are other tweaks you could make, but nothing as important as those changes.

You may also want to take a look at your combat rotation and try to optimize it accordingly. Upgrades to your gear will come via quests, 5-mans, and so forth.

Depending on what I am doing, my DPS runs from ~1k-1.5k, with the latter being raid buffed. If you can pull 600-700, you'll be decent enough.

Good luck,
-z-

Just a question (as my rogue is still in training so i can't find out properly) is it best to skip LR and get imp gouge and im SS for a Combat Swords rogue?

Lightning reflexes suck. Always.

Thanks Arun,
I'll spec out of LR and Deflection once I get some of the better abilities.
My rogue has quite a lot of agi for his level, but I am still using a few of the survival orientated talents until the 40's

Since when is "of the Bandit" gear for druids? That's, what, the sole post-BC Rogue animal type thing? Pre-BC it was monkey, but now that they have 3-stat gear, Bandit seems to work best for rogues compared to stuff like Talon and Grove.

Greetings all,

/rant

Normally I would not get involved in any way in a thread like this, simply because my knowledge is mainly a READING INFORMATION one, using cookie cutters, simply because I cannot think of anything better or more original to do (at least not with my ROGUE (65)).

But...

I see no reason at all to burn BubbaEl down the way you have been doing in here. Yes, he could have read up more. Yes, he could have done more research or try some things out to make a change. But noone that posts in a decent and normal languaged manner should be fired off like happened in this thread.

If the OP would have been "OMFGOOOOOODZIrUlEz, butz I wana make mes even RuLeZ mooooorree!" granted, your responses are fine with me and 99% of the others. But it could have been a bit less blunt this time.

/rant off

To the BubbaEl: yes, 350 is low, yes of course there are reasons for it and yes it should be a lot higher after a bit of 70. Even at reaching 70 with quest rewards and a decent talent build (this you lack the most) you should be quite some higher I think. Try to read beyond the burning lines in the above posters and try to learn from it. The sticky holds immense amounts of information. For example: you call yourself a combat dagger spec, try to find out what this really means before calling it so. You will find out that there are quite some changes you can make that ups your overall performance immensely. Being a casual player is not really an excuse, because I am too (2-3 hours a week max), but still you could spend a little time a week reading up and learning SO much more than in 3 weeks fulltime online...

Always remember though (certainly as a casual player): this is a game, which is supposed to be FUN, no matter how you play it.

I'm not going to flame anyone here as the OP has stated he is now reading the FAQ's and making changes - kudos.

I am going to comment on the above rant, however.

I'm fairly new to the Rogue forum but (obviously by my post count) not new to Alla. Thus I can say with full confidence:

Every single class forum on the WoW site has an FAQ/stickie dealing with that class, faction or what have you. If we took those and the Horde and Alliance and Main 'What do I do/How do I spec/Rate my gear' posts on a daily basis we'd come up with something like ~1000 posts a day on this exact same subject.

Thus when someone who has never posted here before pops on without having read those FAQ's/stickies that are stickied on every single forum in wow.alla and asks the same question that 999 other people have asked today - they are going to get flamed.

Let me break it down before someone else reposts this exact same topic (for those of you signing up to ask this question yet again):

1) Contrary to what your mother told you - you are not special. You are unique - just like everybody else.

2) Many, many, many hours worth of work and months of critique and commentary have gone into the various FAQ's. On the Rogue forum the stickies posted can take you from 1 - 70, gear you and walk you thru Kara successfully. Read the damn things.

3) If you post a question asking the samething the other unique snowflakes ask - 'Rate my */Help with my */I didn't read the stickies because mom says I'm special!' you will be flamed. I know. I read the FAQs, built a build and THEN asked about it and still got flamed.

4) Read the stickies.

Shut the **** up and sit down or GTFO my boards.

His OP and subsequent post were enough to get him flamed in my book, and that's just about the only one that matters around here.
