prot and dailiesFollow

Hello

Been looking around a bit trying to find some info about prot and soloing... but i dont feel like i had my question answered. I have a warrior at 70, and the next month or so i will be doing alot of instances. Therefore im thinking of going full prot to make things easier, im not doing heroics yet but soon.
My question is, is it at all possible to solo stuff as prot? im mainly thinking of my dailies, but also some leftover quest in netherstorm.

you should be able to dps ok as long as you have a good dps set, even if fully spec'd prot. 2h + basic slam, WW and cleave will get the job done well enough, and the difference will be only slightly noticeable depending on your gear... at ~1700 AP and 17/44 spec, my 2h slam will crit for 1500... when at 600-700 AP and 8/7/46 spec'd prot, my 2h slam will crit for 1000... so there is a difference, but you can still get things done. of course, your crit/hit rates will differ, but fortunately that can be addressed with better dps gear.

Ok, thx for the reply. Ive got mostly blues with some random green in my DPS set ill see how that goes. What about DW? Wouldnt i benefit from 1h spec?

Guessin that the build would be something like this

Edit: fixed the link, couldnt quite figure out that talent calculator at first.

If you're prot and have a decent dps set, I would definitely do the d/w thing as you will benefit from it more so than a 2h. HS is your best friend when prot and d/w. Also devestate will now work as a viable way to dps. Just get a couple of good 1h's and you'll be set.

You can also consider taking a tank/dps hybrid built like this one:

Thx for the feedback guys.
Just wondering what have changed with Devastate that makes it a viable DPS option?
And i belive i´ve read somewhere that WW will hit with both hands if DWing now in 2.3, is that true? and does it make WW a good thing to keep on CD?

@chlkilt: ive thought of hybrid, but i want to go prot mostly because i havent done it before and i want to learn how to use the new abilities it provide.

Im an 11/0/50 build Warrior.

I DPS in a DW set which is almost all blue gear (some of my tank set stays on for my dps set becouse i have nothing better)

With the changes to Devastate i can now solo mobs down TONS faster than pre patch, and honestly they go down faster with my Prot warrior than when i solo the same ones with my gimp rogue :)

I have been prot since level 60, havnt speced anything but prot since then and right now is the best i have ever seen Prot for grinding.

I started Prot. You can solo just as well but the mechanics are slightly different. As others have said, make sure you have a DPS set and a Tank set. I personally use a 2 hander when soloing but thats just because I like the way it look. I could probably kill slightly faster with a DW setup but my goal is to have fun, not level as fast as I can. In the end it's down to personal choice. Try out several different sets/strategys and see which one you like the best.

You'll do fine. I'm 12/5/44 prot, and I just switch to my (admittedly bad) DPS gear. I've been doing dailies that way since they were put in, and I have no problems. It'll just take longer to down the mobs than it did, but you'll be able to take more damage as well.
