Hi, im new too WoW and i love to play it. But i was looking an everyone is talking about tanking... if i want to be a warrior do i have to tank or can i just go and kill people with good weps good amour and own.? or what do u suggest??.

lol... i admit... i rolled warrior with delusions of grandeur and conan, wielding massive swords dealing damage and such...

i was a late bloomer... i really started tanking in the 50's when 60 was the limit.

when tanking.... i was very bad at it... till someone was nice enough to teach me and give me pointers...

tanking is fun... i like prot spec more so than arms/fury...

nowadays, there's a lot of dps being done with the right gear and weapon... but then i think that they face a lot of resistance in groups when they are looking at a warrior for a tank...

but then again, there is the druid and pally option a well...

like to go around, slash and kill things and like melee more than casters... perhaps rogue?

but warrior is fun... at least for me it is...

Care to elaborate on that statment? After all the OP admitted he's new. I'd hate for him to think Protect is the solo'ers haven.

Not that Protect is bad, but it has its good/bad points like all 3 chains.

Tanking aint too bad, but from what i've heard, in the very high end raids, Druid and Paly tanks are actually better because the warrior tanking gear gets so much defense, armor, block, parry and dodge that BT and Hyjal Tank Warriors find it hard to build rage and keep aggro.

so u guys think i should worry about tanking in my 60's and 70's?

ok... i'm confusing...

i've learned to like prot spec and tanking, at the latter stages, when nearing the lvl cap, more than arms/fury spec...
but not telling OP to go prot and tediously grind your self to be an uber-tank the old-fashioned-shaolin-kung-fu-movie way...

i like group/class dynamics when it works nicely...

am i still confusing?

never mind... i'll go back to my work...

ha ha ha...

Oh, no. If you wait to tank at lv 60 and 70, and never tanked before you're in for one bumpy ride.

Start trying to get into groups as much as possible.
1) It's free experience, with little down time.
2) The items you can get from there are awesome
3) It will give you practice for tanking.

Read the Warrior stickies on the Warrior Forum page for some basic starter information. I'll tell you stick with Str/Stam, and sometimes Agi when you can find it with str/stam.

To answer your question.

You can do what ever you want. It's your game. I converted to Protect simply because there are 5 (guessing) other DPS classes out there, and only 2 other tanking classes (pally/druid).

You can get into parties as Fury or Arms and DPS, however we don't exactly have a form of CC, most other DPS (except shammy) have a usefull form of Crowd Control.

We can quickly change to offtank, that's kinda a form of CC :P

young, you can be a plain ole warrior slaughtering anything that comes across your path and lvl. Arms, Fury, Prot (Tank) are relative to the talent tree's a warrior has. http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=L <---link to talent tree's to give you a better understanding.

Make sure you pick professions while leveling. Fishing, cooking, first aid are additional things you can learn and First Aid is highly recommended. Anywho, just enjoy the game!

Just go lvl, when you do normal quests on your own use a big 2-handed weapon.

At a certain point in the game you gonna do instances. These are different zones where you go with (mostly) 5 man, each having a different role in killing the elites there.
When you go to an instance just make sure you have a shield and a 1-hander with you as for you are expected to fight in the frontline making sure all the mobs focus on you rather then the healer or other non-mail/plate wearing persons.

Like said before, just run some instances as you need the experience and will take away a lot of questions. Lvl-up and you will find out what stances are.

bah.. you just started the game... have fun... run around and kill and get killed...

see how many hits it take for an elite to knock you down...
go to Goldshire and duel all the time...

whatever's fun for you...

get you lvl 40, still have fun... but now Dual Wielding...

enchant it red and blue glow and you can hum "bad boys, bad boys..." as you charge and chop away at mobs...

Very true. I've offtanked for that last boss in Bot? where you position in the corners and adds go straight for the healer XD I ended up dying at the end of that, but the healer and main tank lived (mission accomplished).

However, unlike the other CCs, our CC is taking away from our main purpose... DPSing. Mages sheep, then frost bolt or w/e the main DPS target, etc, etc.

I do see where you're coming from. And in the main chaple room in SL they were glad to have someone off tanking a caster w/o taking much damage at all (bash, pummel, racial stomp).

Tanking is when you want to impress the entire world with your ability to stand in the middle of a pack of 12, and, knowing that the DPS will take the casters, start bashing every bug ugly bruiser in the place. Thats why you need a good sword and board.

2Handers are for those times when you really feel the need to beat somethings Brains in with a large Brick on a Stick.

Tanking is saving the day, DPS is hacking away.
