Prot Grinding Build?Follow

Note that while this build is prot, the goal is for grinding power - not tanking power. While levelling, the plan is to grind mobs 1-4 levels below me, so everything will be low yellows and high greens. So my plan in essence is to get as much AoE damage as possible and let (S/J)o(M/W) run their course.

As such, any talents which would help TANK, but wont help me AoE grind (such as Imp SoR, Ardent Defender, Avenger's Shield, Imp SotC, Anything buffing or adding a Blessing besides Sanc, etc) I'm not picking up. In solo play as a poorly geared prot (poor meaning greens and blues of semi-recent level with barely any enchants) I dont see kings as necessary, either.

So, with that in mind, here's my first proposed build: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=sVZVoxIx0zggoxV0x0h

I just put the 1 point into precision because that's where it looked like it would fit best.

So I get a ton of survivability (+5% parry, +30% block value, redoubt, +10% armor, +20 defense, +16% stamina) as well as getting a good amount of intellect and then some speed from ret (less down time).

Or...I could go with: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=sMZV0xIx0zggoxVbx0hb

This would be the same prot build (except I drop the point in pricision) and pick up imp Ret Aura. Didn't really see a better spot for the 2 filler points there except for imp judgement (as I will have low melee damage the crit wont do much and I wont be using SotC or BoM much...and I'm not sure if vindication is too good for prot grinding).

So, of the two builds, which would you suggest I use for AoE grinding only, and are there any tweaks you would make?

I believe you are underestimating AD as a good grinding talent. I agree with Imp. SoR, Avenger's Shield, etc... as being useless for grinding, however AD is where good grinders usually get their spot, they slowly take damage up into the 35% range, then they stop taking damage at all. It allows them to pick up a couple more mobs than usual.

I would recommend this build here. It drops PoJ, you shouldn't need it. You aren't running away from anything like a mage, and you shouldn't be grabbing any casters. It also picks up AD, at the cost of one point in Divine Intellect. If you play your cards right you shouldn't need that either.

Hmmm...okay. The reason I wanted PoJ wasn't to run away from enemies, but rather to cut time running from one to the other. But I guess that's what a mount is for. Thanks for the help Jack!

Im not completely sure about this but if you procced Vindication on one of your first couple of swings wouldnt the mob lose 15% HP, that would have to be regenerated afterwards? I know this wouldn't happen every time but 15% is nothing to sneer at is it?
