After level 70..Follow

#1 Nov 13 2007 at 6:14 PM Rating: Decent
After I hit 70, several things happened at once. First, all of my money flew away like there was no tomorrow. Second, I realized that switching to an arena spec right as I hit 70 was a HUGE mistake. Now I feel as if I get owned by every monster I try to kill (though I do pretty much own in arena). Right now I am completely broke trying to get new gear from tailoring and engineering (failed on both fronts), and have decided to take a break from arena. Most of this time will be spent farming rep and money at the same time. I was wondering if anyone could come up with a great farming build for me. I was frost all the way 'til 70, but am wondering if it will give me the DPS to keep doing dungeons along with my farming. So any input would be greatly appreciated.

I specced 21/37/3 from 60ish till 70. I could PvP a little (PoM), do decent in dungeons and could farm quite easily. I'm currently 10/48/3 for raids and can farm quite easily (this may be biased by the fact that I have lots of spell damage). Farming shouldn't really be a problem whatever your specc is, unless you want to AoE grind/farm with gear coming from quests (even then it can be done).

As for the money issue: 2 crafting professions is far from being the best idea, trust me. I was an enchanter and tailor from day 1; was broke trying to make my spellfire set and leveling up chanting and I'm now a little over 1k gold with daily quests (no epic flyer yet). My friend went tailoring/skinning and he made money quite easily. My suggestion would've been to drop engineering earlier and take up a gathering profession, but this decision is now up to you.

Anyone else feel like giving their opinion on this?

I'm confused as to why an arena spec would have trouble soloing. Arena specs tend to give you survivability or burst damage, and both are good for soloing. What build did you go to, Praeot?

Yeah I went 17/0/44 on my mage which is pretty much the main arena spec. I love soloing with this build, no monsters give me trouble. Not sure which spec you're talking about, but I love imp counterspell and water elemental, along with all the other frost goodies.

Sorry for the delay in answering, but here is my spec.

I feel this spec is excellent for burst DPS, I can basically kill anything every 3 minutes or so due to its dependency on cooldowns. It also focusses on instant cast spells (PoM pyroblast w/ 5k crit = awesome). It is possible to farm and solo and everything, but it is a pain since I have to stop every three seconds to drink up. Since it has no points in Imp arcane missles or shorter cast times on FB and FB :P, It is hard to keep things under control

Ah, a deep arcane spec. For me, those are more of a raid spec than an arena spec. You might consider a similar build to this one. Drop those last two points where you want(I personally say one in Blastwave and one in Firepower, but your call).

It gives a more powerful version of 3 minute magery with a higher crit chance to Pyro and a bit more damage depending on where you put the last two points). It functions the rest of the time as a very effective scorch build. With the fast casts of scorch, Impact will proc often. With the extra crit chance on scorches and fireblasts, Ignites will burn your foes to the ground. Burning Soul will give you some spell pushback protection.

I know a mage who uses that build(or a similar one at least) to great effect in both PvP and soloing. Try it out and see what you think.

Thanks, I will try that build out. It looks better for DPS with being deeper into Fire than my current one.
