Okay so i am probably an R-tard but i don't understand when to use renew. I am lvl 36 and i use it primarly when we have to run, from over pulling agro. This is my first MMO and my first char. So other tips besides the basic FAQs would help me as well!
When do you use renew? ALWAYS! lol
Renew is usually the first heal I cast on someone, especially the tank in an instance. As it is a "heal over time" it does not cause an instant amount of threat, but rather builds my threat gradually, allowing the tank to increase HIS threat on the target. I try to always have renew ticking on the tank in an instance.
In a regular group situation, I'll cast renew on someone when they hit 85% or so if the fight is still going on. Then I either wand till the mob dies, or heal more if I need to. I look at renew as a "stablizing heal" it won't mitigate all the damage someone is taking, but it will usually keep their health from dropping like a rock, and it will give you time to cast greater heal when you need to.
It's also great to cast on yourself while fighting a mob rather than using your Power Word Shield. It costs less mana and will generally keep you alive through a fight.

When running with a group, your main concern is the tank's hp - if a dps dies, it's their fault.
Still, it's in the best interest of the group to keep them alive (despite idiocy) - so you toss them a renew (instant) and go back to the tank.

Renew is a great spell. Unfortunately, at a low level, tanks don't always hold agro with the adds. They are coming at you and you should be quick on the fade button to send them back.
Wait just a second after the fight begins to cast renew. When you reach 70, renew will be one of the main spells you give people. It can tick off at over 700 health every few seconds. You will also get Prayer of Mending, which is a great opener.
