No Dead Zone Change?Follow

I just downloaded the patch, scoured through the notes and saw nothing mentioned about the supposed removal of the Dead Zone. Yes, I know not everything from the PTR makes it live but from all the chatter about this, it seemed like it was definitely going to go through. But so far, I see nothing and since the servers have a few more hours to go before being back up, no way to test.

Might anyone be able to confirm the removal or continued existence of the Dead Zone?

Actually it was never in the PTR notes either, it just kind of happened.

Damn your callous cynicism North.

Just messing with you.

In my opinion, I think you'll see the minimum range changed when we can get back in to the game from 8 yards to 5.

Ya, everything I've seen from the PTR has pointed to a 5yd minimum range now. I read a while back that Blizzard decreased our effective melee range to 4 yards (producing a 1yd deadzone existing from 4 -> 5yd instead of 5 -> 8).

I'll get a chance to test it out when I do my Netherwing dailies today...those Orcs that drop the Netherwing Relics don't respond to pet threat the way most mobs do and I wind up kiting them around on the floating islands. Should be interesting.

The scorpid nerf was never mentioned either.

If you check on wowwiki it is an unofficial patch note. It has been changed to 5-35 yards. No more dead zone.

Just logged on for the first time, and flew out to Terokkar to scout it with a yellow mob. It takes more effort to intentionally get yourself into dead zone now, then it ever did to get out of it before.

Actually. From what I saw. there is virtually "no" deadzone. I was killing water elementals with my pet tanking, and kept getting closer and closer to the mob, and kept firing. I literally has to almost touching the mob before my character began to melee.

I have to admit that I felt a lot more powerful.

I did my Netherwing dailies and when it came time to gather Netherwing Relics, I got to test out the new effective range changes.

Love it. Absolutely love it. Kiting has never been easier, even in tight places.

(Anyone do their Netherwing dailies and notice the swimming orc in the sky?)

Yes, I noticed that as well. Although I don't like many of the changes. My attitude may be to the fact that as soon as the realm went up, I went to capp HFP towers and every allied on said "oh look a hunter, let's see how they stand up after the changes".

That's not new. Kill priority for maximum HK farming is: Hunter, Hunter, Hunter. In that order.

Allied on my server tend to be a bit shy though. I had gotten ganked 3 times before this morning. Twice in STV once in Hinterlands. Other than that I'd had no problems. Once the patch went live though, everyone thought that they had to test stuff out on any hunter they saw. (Guildie complained of the same)

I ate every mage I came across in AB. The I proceed to use my skinning skill on them and made the epic cloak: {The Hunter's Prey}

+30agi
+25int
+29sta

Chance on ranged attack: mage knowning that there's no deadzone to hide anymore, runs in fear hoping that the hunter finds another target before he kills them.

this patch was pure win.

This is my favorite change in the entire patch. In tight spaces, during PVP, soloing mobs, much much better now. I was literally laughing at my desk with joy when I experienced it.

Amazing.

Yeah, I destroyed a mage yesterday, he froze me and cleverly hopped into my dead zone and died.

Hmmm...for new hunters until they get steady shot, dancing in and out of melee range may be an increase in DPS. i.e. Auto-shot, jump in and swing, step back and auto-shot 2x (since your swing will probably be slower), jump in and raptor strike, etc. Not exactly a melee strategy, but a weapon-dance. Even with steady shot switching it up for raptor strike every 6 seconds may not be a bad idea. Especially if you got a nice 3.5+ speed weapon.

That would be delightful if you could find someone dumb enough to stand still that long.

Kinda off topic, kinda on...

What is the range where you need 30% higher aggro to pull the target away from your pet?

It is everything beyond the mobs melee range. As a hunter, just stay some yards away from your melee range and you are doing fine.

I've killed so many warriors with pointblank arcane shots since the patch it isn't funny. Well, I lie. It's freakin' hilarious. I always felt the deadzone was lame and am so happy it's gone.
