I just switched to the 10/48/3 raid fire build and I have like 850 damage unbuffed. I am curious on big boss fights besides stacking scorch and keeping it stacked, what is that best spell rotation to maximize my dps.

Should I scorchx5, fireblast, fireball. Refresh scorch when needed and fireblast when the cd is up of should I leave fireblast out?

At lower spell damage levels, Fireblast will act as a double edged sword. It will give you more damage at the cost of a higher mana cost. As your gear gets better, it'll actually lower damage done by your rotation.

Though, I'm not sure how much spell damage is needed for all that, so I'd have to do the math.

For the most part I stick with the scorch x5 fireball x7 scorch x1 rinse and repeat method, does a good job, although sucks in fights like Shade/etc with a lot of movement.

That is what I was thinking anobix. There is usually another fire mage to keep up scorch too. I would probably be able to drop a fireblast here and there because there is usually a shadow priest and/or a shammy in my group.

In the situation where you need to stack your own scorch.
follow the rotation. I have quartz which keeps the debuff duration on display for me to see. In a stationary fight, you can almost make sure that it will not go off.

In mobile fights you will have to throw scorch in earlier in the intermission periods. Say its 10 seconds to Gruul ground slam, you throw that last scorch in regardless to put the timer back to full and run the hell to avoid getting killed by shatter. This way you can come back and still have scorch up to throw fireball at.

Aran is not that bad, the only time where scorch falls of the timer is when you start avoiding blizzards. I turn around and scorch him after magnetic pull, blink to the wall or escape artist FTW!

Even for VR you got time to refresh scorch even when under threat by orb, just do not take too long to do it =P

My usual cast sequence pretty much looks like the one anobix is using although I throw in 1 or 2 arcan blasts: scorch x5, arcane blast, fireball x3,arcane blast, fireballx3, scorch.

Not sure its the most mana efficient, but if you have points in the arcane tree reducing your threat with arcane spells, it might be good to try it out. This rotation also takes into account you don't wanna hit arcane blast while the debuff is on.

Try it and tell me how it feels.

I have another question about rotation and dps. I plugged all my info into lhiveras calculator and it said my dps should be around 900 and last night, I could only manage to squeak out 700 at the max. Can you guys think of any reason why this might be happening? I keep scorch up and fireball and that is all i did, popping trinkets and combustion when they are up. Any other thoughts?

Latency can contribute to lower dps. If you let .1 seconds pass by before hitting the fireball key (e.g. human latency), that will affect things. Resists will affect this as well (how much +hit do you have?)

I am at 140 +hit and am working on the ce ring which will almost put me at 164. My latency is good, and with the new fix they put on casting in the patch from tuesday shouldn't be a problem. Maybe I will go hang out with dr. boom tonight and see what I can pull off.

Remember that the 900 dps is in an ideal situation. If there's any movement, CC, or threat drops, you'll likely lose a bit of that DPS. 700 is a respectable number.
