Warlock/Priest Leveling Talent BuildFollow

#1 Nov 12 2007 at 6:40 PM Rating: Decent
Me and my friend are leveling a lock and a priest together. I'm playing the priest, planning on speccing shadow till whenever i decide not to. And me nor my friend have any idea how to spec his lock, since we both have never played one. We're planning on doing a little pvp but I'm sure we can respec accordingly. What would people suggest, with lock experience, to be the most effective talents tree to invest in while leveling with a priest. I would imagine Affliction, but then again maybe his minion can tank while I lay out the damage, leaning more towards demonology. Then I thought he can tank anyway so why not go affic/destro teamed with a shadow priest for super dps/staying alive/fun-factor. Any suggestion/personal preferences very appreciated. I couldn't find a thread based upon leveling a priest with a lock.

Thanks!

First of all, what is your current level? Your plans sound good to me, but when you allocate your points is as important as where you do. If you're going to go Afflic/Destro, your first 5 points should go with imp. corr, so that you can get a second insta-DoT. If you are planning this build for duoing only, you probably should put points into destro before more into afflic, since drain/siphon probably won't be as useful when there is a healer in the group on a constant basis. Opponents will die too quickly for Drain Life to continue for its full effect.

Thank you. Yes we are planning on leveling only with each other. And we're only level 8 so I didn't feel it necessary to mention that lol. So basically don't get to into the life regen talents and more into the dps ones? Or stay with life siphon and whatnot so we both never die? I think thats what the big question is, what would be the most effective play style to level? Thanks again!

For normal play, I'd go with Afflic talents first, then the DPS, but in your case the Destuction talents will make you formidable. What I would suggest is to nuke mobs, life tap whenever you get low on mana, and let the priest heal you. I've never played your particular combo, but someone else might have. If killing is as fast as with a mage, I suggest that you have your VW tank (with two of you, getting it at L10 should be easy), while you kill mobs from a distance. Your play style will probably evolve on its own - the ones in the shadow compendium are mainly for solo levelling.

Both of you should download and install Omen Threat meter, and learn to start watching it, so that you don't grab aggro away from your VW, It's also good practice for when you start going into instances and going after bosses. It's probably not really necessary at your low level, but doing it from the get-go never hurts.

I have no idea whether you are going to be on a PvP server or even going to be PvPing in BGs. If you are, I can't really help you there. I'm a died-in-the-wool carebear and don't do either. However, there should be someone here that can give you tips on how to duo in contested zones.
